Returning TV to Argos with no receipt?

  • The barcode on the box would give them the information. Or it has done when I've returned stuff and the receipt has faded beyond possible scanning.

How does the barcode on the box tell them who or when it was purchased? Doh!

At most it gives the item code (and so description) and possibly the retailer (if a major store the manufacturer might alter barcodes on the retailer's behalf making it unique to them).

Well, in Tesco's, it gives them the proof that it came from them, that it was sold on such and such a date and is regarded as sufficient proof of purchase for a return. In Argos, the barcode IS individual to the shop and they have additional stickers (and possibly a picking label attached with the date on).

More over, it's easy to leave the receipt in the box when unpacking and the OP could well find the receipt in there.

OK? Or is this another DOH moment for you?
