Returning TV to Argos with no receipt?

I will write this slowly so that you can understand.
The OP buys goes into Argos and buys a new TV, this give him a receipt with todays date on.
He takes it home and puts the faulty TV in the box and takes it back to the store and asks for a refund because it doesn't work.
That way he has a new TV, simple.
You realise Argos dont HAVE to give a refund.....right?You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Yes they do have to give a refund, the receipt shows the TV is days old and it's not working. Argos will not hesitate in refunding.0 -

The OP said its making a humming noise, not that its not working. Electrical noise is something most people have become accustomed to but a small minority are sensitive to it and a even smaller groups health can be affected by it.
But technically, the TV still works. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

This is the real world, the girl in Argos will not even test it, they will refund without question.
Humming from a new TV is not acceptable....0 -
Then the OP's best bet is to phone or email them and get authorisation to return it - i've done this before.
Although if it doesnt impact on the functioning of the tv, its not really faulty. Some tv's hum/buzz/whine........doesnt mean there is necessarily anything wrong with it.
In the OP's case it could be down to a fault (something being loose for example) or just how the tv is. Looking online for reviews should give a better idea of whether it is a singular incident and also give the OP a better idea of whether they would be better getting a replacement of the same model or getting another model that is quieterno?

The serial numbers wouldn't match should they check them. I suspect it is also fraudulent.0 -

I would say a TV with annoying noise does have something wrong with.0 -
Is that opinion one of a expert or personal opinion?
Fact is, some things can buzz/whine/hum/making whirring noises.
All depends on what the functions of the machine in question is and whether its an actual safety feature (such as a cooling device - most often found in microwaves that people complain about being "noisy").
The bad thing with noises like that is that often people dont notice it to start with. Its weeks later once they've gotten over how shiny/smooth/sleek/impressive it is.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Having been in engineering all my long life, I would say expert opinion.
Lot's of domestic equipment can be noisy, but this is not acceptable with a TV.0
