If you phone customer services for argos and give them the date you purchased the item they will or should be able to find it on their system this happened with something my daughter bought for cash i think it was a sofa and they found the details and sorted it out for her. Also if you explain you just want to exchange and they find it on the system i dont think the receipt will be to much of an issue.
hope this helps
This is because it was home delivery, and all home delivery transactions are held by Argos Direct.
OP if you know the date and store you purchased the television from then the store should be able to trace the sale.
When purchasing goods such as TVs etc, I can only recommend that you NEVER pay in physical tender such as cash or vouchers, and use credit or debit card as you will always have a fall back and leave a paper trail. The store will already have proof that he purchased a tv, as they will have taken his details for TV Licensing purposes.
Stores do not have access to this information, the OP would need to write directly to TV licensing to see if they will provide proof of verification that details were received from Argos.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

Credit card best if its over £100 but make you pay the balance off straight away.0

You'll find that the store keeps details in a booklet, they tear the top copy off to send to the TVLicensing people, keeping the copy instore. That's how it worked last time I bought a TV there0

All information is now entered into the till system during purchase, so even if the customer refused to give the information we couldn't actually override the tills to sell it!
The pad used to be used if buying on the QuickPay kiosks, but these now capture the information as it asks the customer to input the information on screen. It is more than likely that the OP's details would have been taken electronically, and stores do not have access to these details.[DISCLAIMER: Any posts made by myself are my opinions and do not represent my employer]

Easiest thing to do is buy another one, then put the old in the packaging and then take it back for a refund.
Personally I always keep the box for as long as I can, always easier to return if you have to.0 -

And what would you do if they repair or replace it to start with and dont offer a refund? Or if they dont stock that type of tv anymore? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
the only problem is I cant find the receipt anywhere, I know I have it as I dont throw receipts away for big items like this, I just cant find it.QUOTE]
I had the same problem. I hunted high and low for the receipts and i eventually found it inside the colander :S I had been redecorating so everything was moved around etc but inside a colander? Wonders never cease! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

They will refund as you are using a new receipt that shows the TV was bought just days earlier.
Obviously if they don't stock the TV anymore, the OP will not be able to do it.0 -
3-4 weeks isnt exactly "days earlier". And the whole point of this thread is that they cant find their receipt..........therefore they cant prove the tv was bought only at the start of the month. You keep using that word. I will write this slowly so that you can understand.
The OP buys goes into Argos and buys a new TV, this give him a receipt with todays date on.
He takes it home and puts the faulty TV in the box and takes it back to the store and asks for a refund because it doesn't work.
That way he has a new TV, simple.0
