Hi
I bought a tv from Argos at the begining of the month, today ive noticed it has started making a loud humming noise, obviously id like to return it for an exchange, the only problem is I cant find the receipt anywhere, I know I have it as I dont throw receipts away for big items like this, I just cant find it.
Now I know which store I bought it from and the date I bought it, I have the box, although it has been sat outside since we bought it so chances are its no good. The store did take my name and address when I bought it, does that count for anything and finally I paid by cash so no bank statements to use as POP.
Thanks for any help.

If you phone customer services for argos and give them the date you purchased the item they will or should be able to find it on their system this happened with something my daughter bought for cash i think it was a sofa and they found the details and sorted it out for her. Also if you explain you just want to exchange and they find it on the system i dont think the receipt will be to much of an issue.
hope this helps0 -
Common sense would suggest they could look it up on their systems, pull a new TV from stock take it out of the packaging and do a swap. Take it back and suggest they do such. After-all if it's less than a month and a clear fault then that's what a 'reasonable person' would expect.
(Under the law you need to be able to prove purchase from them and date so obviously until you find a receipt or similar you're relying on their goodwill to assist with this)0 -

Why is that reasonable?
What is to say it isnt stolen, over a month old etc etc.
There is a reason proof of purchase is needed. Who throws out a receipt for a tv!0 -
OP, if you watch something other than the football, you will find that the "loud humming noise" will go away.0

If you paid be credit or debit card, get a statement form the bank which'll show the purchase.0

Are you trying to pick an argument or something?
Sure it could be stolen however this is unlikely - posting on here to ask for advice, knows which store it was bought from and the exact date!, TV has a clear fault. Would someone who's stolen a TV really know and do that???
And I'd already stated he would need to rely on the shop's goodwill since legally he needs the receipt/other acceptable proof of purchase.0 -
The store will already have proof that he purchased a tv, as they will have taken his details for TV Licensing purposes.0
