I don't have a TV Licence, I get lots of letters from TVL letting me know that I might be committing a crime and that I could face a fine and criminal record if I am caught.

These letters let me know of the crimes I could be committing and request that I either buy a TV Licence or that I contact them and let them know that I do not own a TV, if I do this they will send one of the Inspectors out to verify that I have no television and that I do not have a TV card in my computer equipment.

These letters further add that they could obtain a warrant to search my property or one of their TV detector vehicles might catch me using my television.

HOWEVER, I do not watch television broadcasts live (I do watch things via various catchup services) and I do not engage in any licensable activities.

But I will not be wasting my time replying to Capita/TV Licensing (BBC) and their unsolicited marketing campaigns, nor will I be bullied into allowing the agent of a private company into my home to "inspect" it for broadcast equipment, and there is no way on earth I would allow them to look at any of my computer equipment.

Bang on that man, same situation here. Had quite a few visits now with their leaflets left wedged in my front door jam when I wasn't there.

I use catch up Services only, no live viewing and have a TV in order to watch my HD movie player.

I have also heard that if your using an LCD via Scart, and not an old tube TV, then there is no loopback for them to detect using their "so" called detectors, which i think are an empty threat anyway and they will probably have some sort of noddy contraption like E.T used to phone home!

I won't have one on principal, here in the isle of Man we do not get the full BBC service so why do we have to pay for it all, we are not part of the UK or EEC and have our own laws, the collection vans come over once a year but everyone on the Island knows the minute they are on the boat at Heysham and the vehicle they are using which gets tracked as it travels round the island, they have no real powers here and usually don't even get an answer at the door. So until we can get the full service they can go whistle.

It's a bit like someone saying they don't agree with car tax, which should and is included in petrol in some European countries. So people don't pay their car tax, insurance or whatever tax and it makes it more expensive for the rest of us!

If your paying £500 odd in tax a month, you are on a much better wage than myself and I have always paid my TV License.

I do agree the TV license should be abolished, like a lot of other taxes but not paying isn't getting your message across and they will get the money out of you eventually and possibly get more money out of you in legal lees on top so it is not worth the hassle of not paying!
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

I think you missed the part where I said we are not part of the UK nor do we get the full BBC service here, if the fee was reduced pro rata to the service we get many would not object but as it is not why should we pay extra to subsidise the users in the bankrupt country across from us. we don't need the BBC nor want it, most here either recieve Irish TV or sattelite, the only reason they try to collect it is we are classed as a crown dependancy so the BBC are required to have a minimal service, which means no radio and a couple of terrestrial channels. It shows how our government feel in the fact they do not recognise the powers of TV licensing units not give them any legal standing whilst here, I just happens that they rely on a few of the comeovers who do not know better to pay up

  • sorry if this is not the right place-i have not paid my weekly payments of my tv licence so they have taken me off the payment sceme due to me having diffuties of paying it.

now i have sorted my debts out is it possible to go back on sceme thank u in advance
  • Cancel your Direct Debit and if they come around to your house tell them to leave. I cancelled my TV licence because I don't watch live tv, when they came to my house asking to come in to talk about my tv licence I told them no. They went away and never came back.

It is the wrong place because it is a 3 month old thread about someone who didn't want to pay at all.

Start a new thread (or better still contact the TV Licensing authority at https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/contact-us/index.aspx and ask them directly).
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
  • I can't believe the people saying Get rid of the TV. You are allowed to own a TV without a license fee.
