Just got a visit from the TV Licencing people

Options
Hi,

I just had a tv licence visit and was caught a bit off guard. I opened the door and set up a direct debit. Now, I'm totally against paying TV Licencing - (Please don't post anything if you don't like this, i'm really not interested) as I don't watch BBC and I pay taxes every month (which add up to nearly £500 per month), and I simply cannot afford and refuse to pay £150 on top of everything else.

I just want to know if there are any anti-tvlicencing people out there as I want to know what would happen if I cancel. I would just avoid as they don't do anything apart from send letters. But, i'm slightly concerned as I gave the guy my name and bank details. If I cancel will I get done for fraud or something? Or will it just go back to the same old letters and 1 visit etc..? I said to the guy I should be moving out at some point anyway as my job is moving (which is true), so surely I could send letters back with not at this address or something? Any advice appreciated. Cheers.

If you fail to pay they will take you to court. It is the law to have a tv licence

Why did you give someone who cold calls you at the door your bank details?

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

So basically, you are a criminal.

    You want sympathy?

The fact that you might not watch BBC is completely irrelevant.

Sell your TV, then you won't NEED a licence.

Otherwise, with the actions you are proposing, you will probably be learning not to drop the soap in the shower quite soon!

only if you watch tv , if you have no tv and no other means of watching the constantly repeated tripe then you do not need a tv licence

I presume you don't listen to any of the BBC radio channels then?
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Also, according to others on this forum, the TV licence doesn't just pay for BBC. Other channels such as ITV and Channel4 get some money from the TV licence fund.

Basically OP, you are a criminal and I hope they come down on you like a ton of bricks.

    ...and Five.

...and if you watch Freeview, the licence fee pays for a lot of the new transmission equipment as well.

and apart from anything else, what makes you think youre so special that you think you dont have to buy a TV licence like the rest of us mere mortals.

I have the same feelings about people who park on double yellow lines. Find a bluddy park like the rest of us have to.

So you pay nearly £500 in taxes every month. Which means your annual wage is about £25,000? Which means you take home just under £1,600 a month, and you can't afford a little over £12 of that every month for a TV licence? Sounds like a bad excuse to me.

Ultimately the TV licencing authority does catch people who are watching television without a licence, and those people are fined many more times the value of the licence itself. The bottom line is that going down the route that you want to is illegal, and in doing that you always run an inherent risk of being caught. If you wish to take that risk, just be prepared for the consequences when you are caught.
