Bite the bullit, you got caught, just like any other crime, you get away with it, get away with it, get away with it, GET CAUGHT!
If you dont want to watch the BBC (like the rest of us who begrudgingly pay the license), you have a remote control to turn it over with, if you dont want to have a license, scrap your telly and read a book, I hear libraries are FREE.
As for your predicament, you have been caught WITH an unlicensed television, it is therefore reasonable that you will be paying a fine regardless of what you do with the television from here on, you have NO CHANCE of avoiding payment on this occasion.
You cannot play ignorance, its worth taking these threats very seriously;:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I don't have a TV Licence, I get lots of letters from TVL letting me know that I might be committing a crime and that I could face a fine and criminal record if I am caught.
These letters let me know of the crimes I could be committing and request that I either buy a TV Licence or that I contact them and let them know that I do not own a TV, if I do this they will send one of the Inspectors out to verify that I have no television and that I do not have a TV card in my computer equipment.
These letters further add that they could obtain a warrant to search my property or one of their TV detector vehicles might catch me using my television.
HOWEVER, I do not watch television broadcasts live (I do watch things via various catchup services) and I do not engage in any licensable activities.
But I will not be wasting my time replying to Capita/TV Licensing (BBC) and their unsolicited marketing campaigns, nor will I be bullied into allowing the agent of a private company into my home to "inspect" it for broadcast equipment, and there is no way on earth I would allow them to look at any of my computer equipment. It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

Even if they find equipment capable of recieving a tv signal they have to catch you using it to prove you have been watching and the detector vans can only pick up certain things they certainly as they try to make out cannot pinpoint where the signal is coming from or what channels you are watching. You do however have to be carefull of what you watch from recorded sources apparently if you watch a dvd of corry street for instance that has been recorded by a neighbour they can take you to court. If you have a set up like me which is i do have tv's and dvd players but no arial or satalite connected you are only meant to watch prerecorded things purchased from legitamate sources.
As for inspectors i have found that they very rarely bother to send them out after 3yrs of the above set up they have never called to check my equipment although they are more than welcome to. I am currently weighing up weather to get sky installed and get a tv licence it just pains me to part with the money when the majority of what they show is utter garbage!:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
I do not believe that TVL(Capita) have ever been able to use evidence from their detector vans in court... Obviously to do so would open their equipment to full scrutiny and they would have to state, legally, it's capabilities....It must be accepted as a principle that the rifle cannot replace the speed of the horse, the magnetism of the charge and the terror of cold steel.

Having a TV does not necessarily mean you need a TV licence. If the TV is not connected to an aerial or does not have DVB built in then you cannot receive broadcasts live so do not need one. You can connect a PC to it and watch catch up TV/play games/watch DVD's - none of which require you to have a licence. The Daily Mail
