Insurance companies cant force you to shop from any one shop in particular, you have the right to buy from anywhere you want. Dont let them fob you off.A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!0

You need to follow the complaints procedure set out in your policy document. Try a phone call first and see if you can get the insurance company on side since they appear to be the victim of the Sources overpricing as well.
At the end of the day, they carry more clout and the Source would not wish to jeapordise their contract with your insurance company.0 -
Are they allowed to keep the laptop as well? Surely thats still my property and not theirs? It seems the Source are making off both me and the insurance company, why can't the insurers see this? Its a ripoff.Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

The insurance company, or somebody associated to them are allowed to keep whatever they're replacing... Remember its a new FOR old. Not a new AND old.A bargain is only a bargain if you would have brought it anyway!0

When insurer replace the laptop the old one becomes their property not Source but you can buy it off them. Like when my dad's laptop tiny blew up (I since fix it for £50) they gave him £1500 in PC WORLD vouchers to get a new laptop. They said they will send a courier to come and collect it (cost of them about £40) my dad than said to them look if it is uneconomic for you to repair can I buy it off you instead. She talk to her team leader and said if you can offer us 50p you can have it, save us with courier, paperwork etc. Well of course my dad paid 50p and we now have laptop here all working :-). So to the original poster contact your insurer and ask them what is the policy for them to buy it buy off them0

jay- yes ok but if the source aren't replacing it (as I won't accept their ridiculously expensive offer) why should they charge me for my hard drive return and keep my broken computer? I still think that it was repairable and that the source is scamming the insurance people and me.
I forgot to mention in the initial post that the insurance payout is £250 less than what my laptop originally cost so its not as if they are replacing the original purchase.Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

bod, just contact source and say to them you change your mind, not proceeding with the claim and want it back. Than contact your insurer and say you will use a local firm. Most will not mind that.0

Hi,
I want to insure a dell laptop worth about £800 (now almost a year old).
I looked up on the internet and one of the best deals I found was at https://www.insureandgo.com/computer-insurance.
It is for £50 for one year.
Does anybody have experience with them.
Open to other suggestions as well as I am planning to take my laptop when I go on holiday.
Thank you,
