  • Museumworker - your diary is inspiring!

I will chip in about bikes as I would recommend the one I've got and it is under budget at £275 - it's a Kona Dew. I would post a link but not allowed as I'm a new poster on mse - Evans Cycles sells it. It's a hybrid style one - tough enough for bumpy roads but not too heavy for long distances - I commute a fair way on mine and love it!

We have just starting overpaying our mortgage but it is a new 21 year term this year at massive interest as we only had a 10% deposit, so we don't have much left at end of month to overpay! I'm thinking we can do it in 15 years as it stands.

PS we went to Greenman festival last year and got thoroughly rained on - music was heaven though!

yes, a v long day toots, I needed to give access to another member of staff at 10am, but evening tour won't be over til around 9pm! Had my run and feel a bit better. I've also decided to ditch a project I'm working on, I don't think it is a business priority and have emailed my line manager to say so. If he agrees, I'll be much less stressed and be able to start cracking on work set in my objectives :j!

Am on for the race, although you're looking closer to £150 than £175 k ;) - I think I like a bit of friendly competition!

CathT - I do think it is one of those days, everyone seems a bit snappy today. And if I could sell all my bags for £20 each, yes I'd finally tackle that massive ebay pile cluttering up my wardrobe (and the spare room!). A bit of motivation is what I need. It has struck me how many people with a wales connection there are, or I follow at least on here. Have you done any lessons in Welsh?

mitfordsisters - lovely to hear from you, thanks for posting. Really nice to think that my diary ramblings are of interest to new MFW types. Are you going to start a diary yourself? It is a major motivator and source of support for me. What is your interest/balance?

I also had a friend go to green man last year, when it just chucked down the whole time. When I bought my tickets, he posted on fb to say how horribly wet it was - which OH wasn't too impressed by! But it was v good weather this time, could have got burned a couple of times without lotion. It did drizzle at times, but not too badly, or for too long. I heard the line up was better last year though. Would you go again?
Thanks also for the bike suggestion, I will take a good look at it later with OH (who understands bikes much more than me!)

Have just won a free album download from ribena :j! My day is looking up. Am going to pick something cheery to put on my ipod so next time I have a mean red day like today I can listen to it. Any suggestions?

I live in North Wales and learned Welsh until I was 11 but then went to secondary school in England so lost it. I just know basic phrases but hope that DD can learn it as despite what people think it is not a 'dying language' and very widely spoken in many areas.
    June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!
  • Are there welsh speaking primaries near you? It is very much alive and kicking in North Wales. When I was on holiday in the llyn peninsular I saw lots of posters in shops for welsh evening classes. Perhaps you could do a refresher?

    Mortgage May 2012 - £129k
    January 2015 - Mortgage down to £114k
Target for 2015 to get down to £105k
  • Hi museumworker, I would love to go to Greenman again - tho my DH is more into classical music, but might go with a friend or sibling next time. I would have liked to see Midlake - did you see them?

Our mortgage is £202,500 paying 6.3%; £1444 per month, currently overpaying £56 per month. It seems massive! I will chip away at it with bonuses etc. But love all the tips for making a bit of extra cash to throw at it. When we get out of our fixed deal, we should be able to overpay a lot.

Albums I prescribe for you: Dimanche a Bamako by Amadou and Mariam - I wore out my first copy - joyous really... or Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.

There is one in the town and a few in the surrounding villages, difficult to get into though. DH went to a Welsh school until he was 14 then switched and found it difficult. The Welsh secondary is a fab school so it would be nice to get children into that. Otherwise somehow send them over the border and pay for private school!

Unfortunately I need more than a refresher, I should probably make the effort and attend classes! From what I remember from Welsh classes when I switched back to a school in Wales aged 13 we just watched Fireman Sam! :)

OK MW the race is on, I "think" I will be about £173k by the 1st of January so we will be close. I am paying off everything else before the end of December and desperately trying not to spend anything that isn't budgeted for on the house. I am competitive so I hope this will help as you are much more dedicated than I am but I NEED to get paid off so I can retire at 60 if not before.

I hope you get the non-business work off your objectives, museums are not stress free places, are they? I hope that after yesterdays very long session you are getting a well deserved day off.

I also realised that one of the reasons I cope with my central London flat etc is that I have this house that I go to every week-end. SO when things are calmer perhaps you could set some targets for also having a place outside London to escape to, is Wales too far? perhaps you should start with something easy to get to from London as a step in the right direction? That way you optimise earnings and the use of the second house, perhaps it might even be commutable? Not sure if this is a good idea or a distraction form the main plan. Getting out of London regularly is the key for me, and may be for you too.
  • V tired ladies after a busy few days so apologies for lack of replies. Suffice to say I am feeling v good - life is full but feeling more in control at the minute.

Just wanted to say Sep mortgage statement has arrived. Balance as at 01/09/2011: £179,639.34 :j! Would do more jumps but need to conserve energy...
