are you jealous of OH's hobby?

I think every other weekend is a bit excessive. Never mind the effect on you, you're the adult, you can change this, what about your children who will grow up thinking that their dad is hardly ever around? Has he considered that?0

I think every other weekend is reasonable! He works 50 hours weeks to make sure his family are provided for. 2 days a month to go fishing is nothing!!!
Some men are in the pub every night and all weekend drinking the spending money.
I think the OP should count her blessings really and be glad her husband finds something that he enjoys.:cool:0 -

I am under the impression that he spends all weekend fishing, which I find excessive. As others have pointed out, he may bring the money in, but she's raising their children, and for him to disappear off two weekends out of the month is ridiculous. Where's the quality time as a family?0 -
fishing has to be the most boring thing in the world apart from cricket
my partner has no hobbies so im not jealousReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If it's the full weekend then I do think it's a bit excessive once a couple have children. My BIL is a golfer and he is golfing every weekend most of the year, plus golf trips abroad and he even cancelled the family boxing day get together last year so he could go...yep...golfing. His wife doesn't even bother, and his 3 kids rarely see him. I would have been really annoyed

OP - if he insists on going away every second weekend then you;re entitled to some personal time as well - leave him with the ids and go out for the day yourself. Doesn't have to be anything expensive. Alternatively - get him to take the kids out for the day and have the house to yourself
Ps - my hubbys hobby is DIY/decorating, he loves it...no WAY am I jeaous, it's so useful :rotfl::rotfl:The hobby he wants would be to rebuild an old car, but unfortunately that would cost too much....shame that...;)Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. I don't mind the endless cricket and football games when the weather is good and I can get out in the garden (he's not interested in that!). But sometimes when he has 2 weekends in a row when the saturday is taken up by cricket, and then 5aside on sunday until 2, i get a bit ratty and fed up with him. However we don't have kids yet and so its not too bad. I am a little worried about what will happen when we do... Also he is making noises about joining an 11 a side "proper" footy team, and maybe a "proper" cricket team too - currently it is all just informal and friends and if you can't make a game that's absolutely fine - I'm not so keen on him HAVING to play every weekend. Especially in summer AND winter! I do prefer cricket at least you can take along a blanket or chair and chill out and read or snooze and pretend to be watching while he's getting a golden duck ;-)0

hay thanks for all the replies!
just to clarify he goes fishing on a saturday leaving about 7am and coming back at about 3pm
i do work PT in the evenings only having mon and fri nights off this is to pay off my debts and the CT and when theyr paid off itl be towards our wedding day
this is why i dont want to spend any money
i think one of the major issue was the way he came across
'im going fishing end of!'
no 'is there anything you want to do?'
i am really grateful for him working 50 hours a week im really lucky hes not at the pub every night(bl00dy good job as the kids do need some looking after even though theyr in bed!) or has even got a job and isnt a bum!
i dont begrudge him the hobby as i said i think its a different problem
all your opinions have been very interesting though thanks againI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
OH has always been into photography.
He got into it seriously about 3 years ago - he is very good at it. he is self employed and stupidly busy, so a lot of the little spare time he has is processing photos.
And it costs a fortune! He doesn't go crazy buyng things, but the new camera he bought last month cost £1k...I can think of things I'd prefer to do with £1k!
Plus everytime we go out the camera always had to come with us - which meant I was dealing with 2 kids and a dog on a "relaxing" walk.
Had to have a chat about that one. Want him to enjoy his hobby and have off time, but it shouldn't come at the expense of family.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Well, bubbles it seems you have your hands full. Once you have cleared your debts, perhaps you might want to spend some money on you instead of putting it all in saving up for the wedding. You only live once and it will be too late when you are old and look back and think: "I wish I had..."
Your husband at least realises that he needs some time to relax and be himself.
I'm now wondering about the point of this thread. Was it just a rant or were you looking to change things?LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Well now you have clarified, every second Sat 7-3 isn't too much imo. (when you said weekend I thought sat am to sun pm!)
Agree the attitude isn't great though, he should be helping you to have some time off as well.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
