me, wife and little one at 1 year old
want at least half board, decent facilities, room, air con, food etc.
close to amenities for walks as won't be able to lie around and do a normal nothing type style.
looking at spain and majorca etc.
thoughts?

i wouldnt i think it would be way to hot for the baby
but im sure if you asked your travel agent they be able to give some suggestionsReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -
I agree I think it would be unbearable. We've only just started daring to take our 2 to spain in summer and there's still a lot of shade-searching goes on. the beach is out between about 12 and 4 (mind you we are a bit over cautious maybe but don't want any burnt bodies) however we normally stay in a house with a pool so we can always find some shade but it would be very uncomfortable for your baby especially sleeping at night. presumably you have to go that time of year?0

Not sure from your post if you're worried about logistics of taking child abroad, or about whether Spain or Majorca would be suitable.
Couldn't really say whether the destinations would be OK as that depends on where you stay and what you plan to do. I wouldn't want to spend the day sitting in the August sun though (either me or the child)!
But as for going abroad with a small child, we've taken our daughter to Canary islands (age 6 months), Holland (18 months), Greece (2 years), Malta (3) as well as lots of camping trips around the UK. It just depends on your and the child's attitude I think, as long as everyone is reasonably flexible and the child is pretty easy-going then I would definitely go for it, it's great for them to have new experiences and for you all to have a bit of a change!0 -
I had friends who took their toddler to the Gambia no probs...its personal choice really...but im sure you will factor in the heat issue...a 1 year old cant really tell you when they feel too hot etc, only you as the parent know your child and how they are likely to take to travelling abroad. We took our son to Majorca for his first holiday abroad at 18months and didnt have any problems,go to a decent hotel (we used Thomsons) and take plenty of Dioralyte should you encounter jippy tum/dehydration and you should be fine!!0

we went to marjorca alcudia when my son was 2 weeks off his first birthday.
He was fine I made sure he was in the all in one sun suits ans plenty of sun cream on all the time. R hotel was right on the beach and we brought a large brolley to sit on the beach with he was in the shade the most of the time other than when in the water.
My son wasnt walking but crawling so it was easy to watch him but once there walking there off ..............0 -
We went to a very quiet hotel in Ibiza last August (with two older children) and it was Very Hot. When we went to bed at around 11pm, our room was still around 28-30 degrees. It took most of the night for the air con to bring it down to a more reasonable 20 degrees. My boys are able to tell us how they are feeling; I would be worried about taking a child so young to that area.
Could you not look at somewhere a bit more northern - somewhere in France for instance. You still get very good weather, but it is a little cooler.0 -
we took our daughter to Austria for a week at 8 months old, then 10 days in majorca at 18 months old last october then 23 months old to orlando for 2 weeks.
never had any problems,we took one of them fold out tent things for the beach that had UV protection she also had them full size swim suites with long sleeves and legs and matching hat with neck protection.i cannot understand why people are advising OP against going abroad with a 1 year old,i did not see them asking for that kind of advice just thoughts on possible locations.
majorca is very good for families, not my kind of thing but we got it last minute stopped at hotel samoa in majorca all inclusive cannot remember the resort name, very good activities for the kids.from memory it cost £800 ish for the 3 of us also october weather was very nice around the mid twenties so not overly hot.could you go at that time of year instead as weather more bearable than august??
just to add the rooms had air con if you need it.0 -
I never understand parents who govern their choices through their kids, ie not taking babies on hol until they are x age.
We took our son to the canaries when he was 7 months, yes of course you have to search for shade and apply lots of lotion but he/they dont come to any harm if looked after.
A friend of mine took his 6 month old to Australia
So IMO take your 1 year old whever you want to go0 -
I took my son to Menorca when he was 6 months. You just need to make sure you can keep them in the shade when they want to sleep and slap on the suncream. Menorca is wonderful for babies and small children.0

My daughter has travelled abroad from around 14 months with no problems a part from travel sickness which is something to be aware of - make sure you have plenty of clothing changes in your hand luggage in case they are sick mid flight. As everyone else has said just be aware of the heat etc.0
