I justify my point on the grounds that when you have driven a modern (built last 5 years or so) BMW on run flat tyres through all 4 seasons of the year on less than perfect road surfaces especially in the second half of the tyres short life (compared to non run flat tyres) you'll appreciate why "the ultimate driving machine" and "joy" are not to be found without careful choice of suspension type (M Sport), wheel size and ditching the run flats for standard tyres.
For some owners it takes suspension surgery (fitting Koni FSD dampers) to turn the car in to what you'd expect a BMW to drive like. Get all that right and your Skoda and Mondeo is no longer so tempting, but the latest BMW's don't leave the factory this way.... unless your buying an M3, M5 or M6 which don't and won't use run flat tyres.
If I had a BMW again it would be on M Sport suspension and I'd take the run flat tyres off and store them at the back of the garage until I came to sell the car on.
Or just spec the 19" wheels which don't have run flats. I am not a fan of run flats either which is why anyone doing their research will probably not have them on their car
I still think you are comparing apples with oranges though
EDIT Actually my bad didn't realise new 1 and 3 series all have to have runflats as standard. I agree that is poor0 -

Forgot about this one when posting my earlier reply.
I've test driven one of those and it is spot one, really like it, it's a "real BMW".

I guess your referring to the E60/E61 5 series M Sport and those spider 172 19" wheels with standard tyres?

It certainly is. Combine it with a twin turbo torquey diesel and it is the real deal (that from a petrol rather than "heavy oil" head aswell!)
Having just reviewed what is available on lower models I am shocked you cannot specify (online anyway) no run flats. You learn something everyday0 -
I've had an Octavia Estate for the last three years and now have a Yeti. For everyday motoring you can't beat the modern Skodas. They're reliable, comfortable and spacious. I must admit the Fabia greenline is pricey though. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
The fabia estate greenline 2 model can be had for £11,100 thru drive the deal.....seems ok to me.0
