I agree, skodas make some good cars mechanially. Its that badge. Stick it on a veyron, sell for £40k and I still wouldn't own one ;)
Get with the times, snob

It's basically an A1, Polo or Ibiza with a different coat on. The entire VAG group use the same engines and ancilleries, with a few different finishing touches, including the badge, lol!

Plus the interior of a Polo has to be one of the most depressing things in the world, whereas the Fabia is quite light and feels spacious.

I think Skoda's are great cars and my Mum had one of those dreadful 80's pre-VW ones. I was in Prague last week and every other car is a new Skoda! Not sure i'd fork out nearly £14k for that though. Rather spend half the money on something more fun and powerful. I doubt you'll ever see 83mpg in normal driving and unless you're doing a lot of miles it'll take a while to recoup that extra cost. Still, each to their own. I test drove a 3.6 V6 Cadillac CTS today. Lucky if i'd get 24mpg but i only do 5 miles to work each day so fuel economy isn't a big influence on my decision.

@cyclonebri1 - head over to briskoda.net, might be some people over there that can give you a review.

I drive a Skoda and think it's awesome....BMW drivers really don't like a Skoda pulling away from them; that's a big contribution to what makes it awesome :D

    Modern Skodas, well made.

The Fabia estate, a neat little car.

But, nearly £14K? Seems an awful lot.

    Brilliant car

We were looking at one ourselves but it has a DPF so not suitable for us

All modern diesels have diesel particulate filters. I know when mine is getting clogged-up, I loose a lot of power. This is however, easy to rectify. All you do is roar up and down a motorway at 70mph in 3rd gear for 20 miles or so once a month, it burns all the carbon off the filter.
    Never Knowingly Understood.

Not quite "All" although I agree most. Renaults are still available in FAP and none FAP versions, the general consensus is that the none FAP cars are less trouble and slightly more economical ;)

But you're right about the "decoke", even on diesels that don't have the filter. I drive for economy most of the time but every now and then you have to give them some gun or the economy drops off along with performance. Never ceases to amaze me the amount of black soot that gets belched out ;)

They weren't real BMW drivers then were they ?! Come on I accept that Skoda now make decent cars but seriously???

    Missed this reply before.
I justify my point on the grounds that when you have driven a modern (built last 5 years or so) BMW on run flat tyres through all 4 seasons of the year on less than perfect road surfaces especially in the second half of the tyres short life (compared to non run flat tyres) you'll appreciate why "the ultimate driving machine" and "joy" are not to be found without careful choice of suspension type (M Sport), wheel size and ditching the run flats for standard tyres.
For some owners it takes suspension surgery (fitting Koni FSD dampers) to turn the car in to what you'd expect a BMW to drive like. Get all that right and your Skoda and Mondeo is no longer so tempting, but the latest BMW's don't leave the factory this way :( .... unless your buying an M3, M5 or M6 which don't and won't use run flat tyres.

If I had a BMW again it would be on M Sport suspension and I'd take the run flat tyres off and store them at the back of the garage until I came to sell the car on.
