No satellite signal........Help !

My satellite signal died a couple of hours ago...........Checked the cable both ends..........Dish hasn't moved.......Weather very cloudy.
On the signal test it says Signal strength......approx 50%....Signal quality Zero.....Not locked.......Network ID...0002.....Transport stream.....07d4.
God knows what all that means other than I haven't got a picture.

It's been OK up until recently when it started pixilating badly and the picture freezing during bad weather which it didn't do before unless we had torrential rain.
Everything is dry on the connection to the lnb.

Any ideas anyone.
Sky just told me to ring my local aerial contractor.

seems that your dish is slightly out of line...

or maybe the tuner is playing up...

could be one or the other or even something else...

but most likely dish is not aligned correctly on astra 28E

Ring Sky again and ask how much for them to sort it. Then say I can't afford that, I need to cancel. They'll put you through to cancellations dept. who will fix it free to keep you subscribing.

I've already had a great deal from Sky thanks, so I don't want to push my luck.
I just wanted to know if the symptoms I wrote about rang any bells with you Techies !!
I'd rather try to fix it myself if possible.........With your help of course

I've had a great deal from Sky too, but I'm just giving you my experience from about 4 months ago. The chap said that because I'd been a long standing good customer...:rotfl:... He would do it for free. Didn't have to "Push my luck" and after booking the engineers visit he asked "Anything else I can do for you sir" At this point I know others have got a 6 months reduction but I was excited about the free repair and just said no thanks. What a prat I was.
Oh, and others on here have said they do this every 6 months or so.

Common problem normally fairly easily fixed. Most likely that dish has deviated slightly from the correct angle for a few seconds and you just need to reset the sky box. I also sometimes whack my dish a little with a stick to realign it (highly tecnical) on the side facing away from the prevailing wind.

Switch box off at mains and wait 30 secs, then plug back in. Turn TV to Sky channel and take Sky box off standby. This may be enough.

If not press the "Services" button on the top of remote. Press "4", then "0", "1", "Select" to get into the installer menu. Select option 1. Scroll down to the last two options and change both from "On" to "Off". Save and exit. Go back in and change them back to "On", again save and exit. If this is enough, the background music should start.

If not, select the "Manual Tuning" option. Scan for channels. You'll see that the signal strength etc is displayed. After a few seconds this should come back up to normal strength. Keep pressing "Select" to go back to menu and then hit "Sky" button to go back to viewing.

That should be it fixed. If not, try whaling on the dish a few times and then repeating. Works for me.

Strange that this is such a common problem, the cynical side of me wonders whether there is something built into the software of the box that makes it go funny after the year warranty is up so you have to pay the £65 call out charge for the Sky engineer.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

    Recent thread on this here

Check that a tree in the garden hasn't grown during the summer and is now tall enough to block the signal. We had this problem. Stand under your dish and look where its pointing and see if there is a tree in the way. Top the tree or move the dish to a clear path

When doing this do not look at what is happening on the screen as you will get confused, as what's on the screen does not correlate to what you are doing on the remote. It is to stop/deter people accessing the Installers Menu and messing up the settings. However, it is a well known method of fixing your own problems and setting up the system again.

    Thanks for your posts.
I tried evrything you said but it goes onto the "Searching for listings" and then it says no satellite signal being received.
I tried it on my Mums dish which works fine with her receiver and still no signal being received, so I rang a local aerial and satellite company and told them all this and they said it was probably the tuner, which would cost as much to repair as buying a new one, so it looks like buying a digibox from them or looking in the local free-ads.
Any cheap ones out there ?
    Thanks

Probably wasting my time but I'll try again...
Sky WILL replace it free if you go to cancellations.
