There's always one!
OP, my son got a really good tropical tank with working lights and filter on freecycle last year, we couldn't believe our luck.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. think i will try freecycle,i don't understand how they can be within their rights to charge for collection,if i bought something out a shop,i would pay for it to be delivered, wouldn't pay anything extra if i collected it0

Presumably the seller you are talking about is a private individual.
They will have to wait about for you, and some buyers can be a nightmare to pin down to a time, whereas if they courier it they can pop it in their car, drive to the depot, and it's gone when they want it.
There was a thread on here recently about bad collections, I'll see if I can find it, might make you see some of the reason sellers aren't too keen
Here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2538129This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0 -

Like people have previously stated it's the sellers choice.0 -

That though is more realistic , the value is represented by the item cost not the over inflated postage.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. But some sellers will bump up the postage on an item to avoid the Ebay fees.
For example, I look for local job lots of stuff to car boot later. I really cn't remember what they were but there were a few job lots of desirable items starting at 1p - postage was £19.99 (more like the price I'd say they were worth), I enquired and the seller wouldn't allow collection - simple scam to avoid fees methinks.0 -
