I haven't read through all the posts, so this may have been mentioned already........ I dry-fried a good handul of scallions and added the beans with a teaspoon of marmite. It was so gorgeous I can't tell you! My dd1 absolutely loved it too!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

I love branston beans and can currently get 3 tins for a £1 in farm foods
But as a staple when using the store cupboard looking at ways to use them differently
Currently I have tried adding frozen peppers when cooking, or fried onions, a spoonful of curry paste for variety in taste. Have added to mince meat to make it go further in various dishes.
So any suggestions or personal favourites would be welcomedI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Best way with beans is to warm them slowly in a pan, add a big knob of butter to melt in and thicken the sauce a bit more, and a wee dash of lea and perrins and a good grinding of black pepper
Use to top toast and enjoy0 -
Or serve with a dash of tabasco on wholemeal toast by candlelight0

If you really want to "pimp up" baked beans, try refried beans.
REFRIED BEANS
INGREDIENTS
½ an onion
400g tin of baked beans
400g tin of red kidney beans
1 tablespoon of oil
½ a teaspoon of chilli powder
METHOD
Peel the onion, cut it in half, chop one half into tiny pieces and save the other half. Open the tins of beans. Drain off the water from the kidney beans.
Put the oil into a frying pan on a medium heat. Add the onion. Fry the onion for about 2 minutes until it is soft. Stir frequently to stop it sticking.
Add the beans and chilli powder. Stir thoroughly. Fry for about 5 minutes. Stir frequently to stop them sticking.
Serve with a DVD of "Blazing Saddles".
