Shifting a 24K debt in a year?????

What's the interest rate on the Santander after the 12 months, you want to make sure you don't get stung with that, along with the huge rate on the MBNA card. But that's cool that you're going to save over £600 from shifting £1,400 of the card debt to the interest free debt
I recently closed my £2,000 overdraft (I was using it all) to just £250 which is interest free, and I plan on keeping it this small from now on, as I was just increasing it all the time to keep my neck above water -- fortunately now, I'm in a better job so can afford not to have to increase it, but before I was just about getting by each month.
London does sound like it will be excellent, and you should have a great time! If it makes you feel any better in September I've a dinner/dance I've got to go to, which will cost a lot of money (drinks are about £6 a pint!!!) so we're both treating ourselves to an extravigance
Same as you this weekend, tonight I'm staying in and Saturday is a house partyAlthough I got my pay today, I usually have a quiet week until the 1st as that's when OH gets paid, which works out best for me because I then only have 3 weeks until payday again. Going to have to be careful with payments to debts as last month I paid too much, but will be careful this time around.
Hope the frustrations are short lived. I know how you feel, as you've read, I get very frustrated too! Anyway, have a great weekendBeccie I must admit that I was totally confused by your first paragraph with all the switching and DD's etc but after reading it 3 or 4 times it all sunk in and :j yay, sounds like a good plan, like Adam said just keep an eye on that OD.
Yes I think you should go to London too, you would only regret not going and like you say, you are in it for the long haul and you can't expect not to have some sort of life!
Thanks guys! I am definitely going to London - I have booked the time off work now and am going to start looking for cheap hotels. Might have a look at booking train tickets soon too to see if I can save a bit. I live only 45 min train journey from Waterloo but a day travel card return is still over £20:eek:
Good point with the overdraft. After my 0% runs out in a year then the rate is 12% if I continue to pay in a £1000 a month, 19% if not, and I will continue to pay that money in. So a good deal really - feels like ages since something money wise has been a good deal!:rotfl:Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Hi all,
Time for my Monday update!
I’ll start with the bad news and get that out the way.It is looking like within the next couple of weeks my hours at the pub may well be cut, along with everyone elses. The pub is not doing well on selling food anymore, I guess as with everywhere with people spending less money. So the landlady has decided not to do food anymore. As a fair few of my hours, and everyone else’s are based around covering food service times, these will be cut. A shame if that happens as obviously we are all in need of the money! I have worked out that for me this means I will be making £50 less a month.
This works out as £1700 by my current DFD of May 2013. Obviously, if I take this amount from my snowball payment each month I add to my DFD by 2-3 months. So, in my usual excessive planning fashion I am starting a ‘lost hours fund’.:) I am going to try to raise this amount through extra ‘work’ to make up for the loss. My plan is to raise this through online surveys, selling etc whilst looking for an extra cleaning job if possible too. I dabble in surveys anyway and receive payout very infrequently as I don’t really put in the effort that I really should. So, I am stepping up my game! It was a bit of a knock yesterday to be told the hours are going but now I have a plan it’s back to the positive thoughts!
Gotta do what you gotta do.
Other than that, the £1400 from Santander finally hit my Lloyds account this morning and so has been fired off to MBNA.
I’ve also received £3 from green metropolis this morning so that has also been sent MBNA’s way. Every little helps!:rotfl:
And I have worked out my payrise from the end of August and have figured this will make a difference of £62 a month at worst. The raise may end being slightly more but for now I’m going to work with the worst case scenario so that I don’t end up disappointed. This will help towards the deficit from losing hours but I am still going to run my fund separately anyway!
On non-money matters, I think I am getting old! Spent all of yesterday trying to shake a hangover from Saturday night. I had a great time but I did pay for it! Then to make matters worse I was making the big soup batch for the week (butternut squash and chilli) and rubbed chilli in my eye! Owwww! :rotfl::rotfl: I guess you live and learn though, will never be making that mistake again!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Hi Beccie,
You are doing so well!!! It's a shame about the pub, but these things happen and you are tackling it head on!!! You'll be surprised by how much you can make on-line if you put your mind to it... you won't become a millionaire, but those pounds add up!!!

Nice to see you around again D2BDF! How have you been?
I bet this quote thing won't work - I'm so crap at it... anyway, I'm not doing too bad thanks. Have been trying to catch up on MSE world. Am soooo loving that ticker, keep thinking what else I can use it for
Just waiting for my baby to arrive now which I'm really looking forward to - that's the most exciting thing happening atm, the money situation is not the best but could always be worse.
When I keep reading about your cleaning jobs it makes me feel that after the baby I should do a bit of private cleaning - not sure I'm very good at it though, will have to see how things go with OH job and how much time I have on my hands.Me, DH and DD (17 months) clearing our debt for a better future. Then (LBM) = £21,636.43 (Oct 2009) Now = £12128.07 (44%)GOALS/CHALLENGESTry to get credit card to £2k by April 2012 (was £3014.94)PADing to clear CC 1/1/12 TOTAL: £32.00Ditch 100 in January challenge: lost count but way over 100!!!/1000 -
Unfortunately some more bad news.
Found out last night that all my regular hours at the pub will be going - not half of them as it originally seemed.
I have about two weeks left of normal hours and then that's it.
I can still pick up 'extra' shifts as it were so have signed up to some for August and September. Unfortunately, this is a lot of weekend nights for events and stuff which means working till 4 or 5 in the morning.
Puts my lost hours fund at £3,400 now, as that's £100 a month. This is worked out till my DFD date from August. So if my DFD date comes down then so will the total I have to hit. Also, in a weird way it could be good motivation having an exact figure to work towards.
Was very unhappy last night but just need to keep going - the only way that total can go is down!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Oh dear hun, that's rubbish! Don't blame you for being annoyed, it always seems that we have these great plans and then someone or something comes along and c0cks it all up for us! At least you may be able to get some shifts at the events. Shame you aren't closer to me as the pub I work at needs someone a few hours a week!
Time to get on the survey wagon maybe?

Thanks Jody.
Yep, definitely going to be climbing aboard that survey wagon! I do ok from them but haven't to be honest been putting in a huge amount of effort. Hopefully with some effort I'll see some progress!
My hope is that with a combination of 'extra' shifts as it were, surveys, a bit of ebaying, and then my payrise at the end of August that I'll be able to hit the £100 target each month and still keep making that snowball payment. I'm gonna give it a good go anyway!
Dread to think what it would do to my DFD date if I didn't.....:(Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -

Not sure if it was already mentioned elsewhere but have you thought about going down the DMP route? Not sure if maybe on paper you would earn too much but it might be worth considering? Only downside would be defaults etc so if you have a good credit history then it might not be worth it!

Hi Adam, of course there is a plan to back-up the back-up plan! Is it that obvious how much I like my plans?!
I have put my name into a couple of others now so they know I am looking and told someone here who also works in a pub and she said she would put my name forward too. Problem is not many are really taking people on as the pubs round here are suffering a bit at the moment.
In the meantime though, there is the hours left as when I can get them and I have been checking out the make £10 a day thread etc to try and get some tips. Not sure if it was already mentioned elsewhere but have you thought about going down the DMP route? Hi Jody,
I looked before and was told I didn't qualify. I then got some advice on dropping extra work and stuff so I did. I asked one of the CCCS people on here though and they said it would affect my credit rating to have to do it. Which would be ok but they said it might affect my ability to pass rental agencies checks - and because of the market we have to move every six months to a year so I can't afford to fail that. Thanks for the suggestion though - really wish I could do that!
Anyway £1.90 so far into my lost hours fund! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
