Must be one of the lucky ones. Signed up for talktalk 3 with free broadband 29/07/06. Line connected 15/08/06 following earlier confirmation by post and voicemail. Broadband equipment arrived a week later with go live broadband date of 30/08/06. Connected and set up e-mail addresses this morning and every thing is working fine.Even better they hav'nt yet taken any money whilst the original projection for broadband connection was end of September.
Nevertheless I am keeping everything crossed in the hope I do not have to contact customer service which sounds to be something of a nightmare according to the various posts.
A rich person is one who knows when they have enough!0 -
I have had five months of problems with Talk Talk in the fact they either do not or cannot communicate with their customers.
After 30 emails and 12 letters from February 06 - May 06 I finally sent a registered letter to Charles Dunston.
I am still waiting for a reply from Mr Dunston as at 31 August 2006.
Utterly appalling company from the point of any customer service and I am so, so glad I have finally got rid of them.0 -
Signed up in May telephoneline was switched from BT 26th May broadband promised by end of August no word from TT
Sent the MAC code 5 times but no response.
Advised a mate of mine that the deal looked good he applied June his ISP Onetel cut him off he phoned one of the numbers on this tread was given password and details of how to connect which got him back on the net
Startup pack arrived two days later.
I wait patiently expecting the worst as August comes to a close0 -
Hi there all you TT fans,
Another update - finally received my modem and connection CD - only one month late! Managed to set up 2 out of the 3 computers we have at home - took me just over an hour - fairly straightforward. The 3rd PC caused some difficulty. I shut down my firewall (Zonealarm) before starting the installation and somehow in that short period of time, the PC got infected with a virus which prevented the PC from even booting up. I had no choice but to re-format the entire hard drive - ouch! And re-do the broadband installation which worked.
Some hints:
1. TT use Citylink to deliver your 'welcome pack'. However, these guys only deliver Mon-Fri and if you are not at home they will take the package away again instead of leaving it with a neighbour. So if you know when they are delivering, call them and ask them to leave the stuff with a neighbour or take the day off!
My local depot tel. no. is: 0121 - 506 3742, Hartlebury, Worcester
Citylink head office tel. no. 01932 - 822 622, Sunbury on Thames, Middlesex
2. Leave your firewall up and running for the broadband connection installation. Your firewall should prompt you for access to the internet during the installation phase.
3. Well worth complaining in writing to these guys (see my initial post for addresses etc.). TT waived my £29.99 connection fee after I complained - took 3 weeks before they acknowledged my complaint letter though.
4. I have been using the following free software for about 2 years and have suffered absolutely no problems whatsoever with hackers, viruses etc. All this software is available for free download from:
https://www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads/
Then do a search for:
ZONEALARM
SPYBOT
AVAST
ADAWARE
Good luck all you guys.

I too have received my broadband start up pack today. Just like rubrub mine was a month late. Installed all the software and I was up and running. The only trouble was outlook express. I couldn't find a way of configuring my talktalk webmail account into the outlook settings from the set up cd. I ended up configuring it manually. If anyone else is in the same position and doesn`t know how to do it, then follow these easy steps.
Start outlook express, click on tools, then click accounts from the drop down list.
Click on add in the top right of the window that pops up, and then on mail.
Follow the onscreen promps and fill in the information required. When it asks for your email, type in your talktalk address and click next.
It then asks for pop3 and smtp servers. These are : pop.talktalk.net and smtp.talktalk.net.
Then you will need to enter your log in details. These are the same details that you use to log onto the webmail service. Click next and then finish.
Hey presto, you`ve saved a phone call to the adorable customer servises department. Hope this helps!0 -
I have joined the talk talk for Home telephone and broadband costing £19.99 However wanted a review of their service. They have informed that the broadband should be activated in Oct 2006.
Would like to know experience of other talk talk users in terms of service, broadband and costing.0 -
Talk Talk update
Called 08000855900 at 4.51 pm got straight through and talked to Halid
Told him my go live date was 31st August and i had heard nothing.
Told him i sent the Mac code five times no reply.
He stated that the Mac code had been recieved "so far so good"
He then stated that it had expired
I replied that since i sent the Mac Code on the 3/8/06 and it was valid for 30 days this was not possible.
He then asked for the Mac code again
I replied i thought you had it and it had expired he said he would use the code to activate the line.
He said it would activate in 5 - 6 days and the modem would arrive in this time.
I wait with antisipation but not confidence0 -
I think that answers infra487's question!codfish wrote:Talk Talk update

I wait with antisipation but not confidenceTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
