  • Hi Pippasdog

You say you have talktalk phone line and thats ok but did you sign up to talktalk as the whole package talktalk3 or talktalk3 intenational ?. If the answer is no and you only ever signed up for just phone line then you dont have to give MAC. If the answer is yes to either above then you are tied in to an 18 month contract the moment the phone line is connected, so yes its in your interests to hand over the MAC code asap to talktalk.

    Hope this helps

I signed up for Talk Talk on May 7th..had a 'go live' date for my broadband at the end of August.
August finishes next week & I've still not had a modem or heard anything so it's not looking good :(

I have not contacted my old provider yet for a MAC code after reading threads on here. I'm going to wait until I know it's definately happening, otherwise I risk not having any broadband

The good news is that even on phone bills alone it's working out cheaper than when I got the phone thru BT so at least I am saving a bit already. Just wish they'd get a move on so I can save myself another £29 a month with BT

I suppose you get what you pay for

    Hi guys!

Happy to see I am not the only one! Had enough of Talktalk so thanks for all the contact details. My story:

Signed up June - expected online date 17.08. Not able to connect contacted technical support just to confuse us! They have both my hubby's and my name on separate accounts, two bank account details and all passwords mixed up so we were not able to pass the security question part! have spent 55 minutes on the phone at 10p a minute and now I am told that someone else will call us within 4 days. This is terrible as I have emailed on numerous occasions and asked talktalk to call me as I was unable to get through the phone ( preferred someone from England ). Noone contacted me.
When we uploaded the cd they sent us, some sort of error occured and now we have a virus. The pc is really slow, the desktop been deactivated ( no idea what it means) and have sex websites coming up. Our previous internet connection details have been deleted therefore unable to go online ( I am work at the mo). I am seriously concerned about our PC, so I will use the above contacts to try to resolve this chaos.

Note - if you are having problems and talktalk failed to provide a service within a reasonable time you should be able to get out of the contract! I was told that I am tied in for 18mths but if this is not sorted by Friday I am out ! ( Rather pay more for a reliable service)

I would be interested in your issues and resolutions so pls keep updating this thread.......
  • I signed up for Talktalk back in April as it offered me a potential 50% saving on the amount that I was paying to BT. I have found the joining process to be so frustrating and time consuming that I wish that I had stuck with BT. I have yet to save any money due to the fact that Talktalk seem unable to switch my broadband connection. Financial saving or not I am counting down the days until I can return to BT.

If you have spoken to the Broadband support people and found it a frustrating experience just wait until you have a problem with your landline!
  • One of the major problems is down to which telephone exchanges their equipment has been installed.

As you can imagine all of the ISP's are moving to unbundle first in the areas that would give them the highest number of customers and the greatest returns, (inside M25 and major cities).

For those outside the main conurbations you're not going to get Talk Talk for some time because connecting 5 customers in a small exchange in a remote part of England is not seen as much of a priority against 200 connections in North London.

So for the user who is based outside of the main cities I'd look elsewhere for the moment or use a site like Samknows.com to check to see when you exchange has the Talk Talk kit installed.

  • If you don't receive the "Free" broadband is it not a breach of contract therefore coudln't you argue that because you haven't recieved your free item you want out of your contract for free?

Someone must know the law regarding this. As it isn't stated in the terms and conditions that it's down to stock levels etc so they can't try and get out of it with that excuse.

Anyone with any legal knowledge know about contract terms regarding stuff like this?

I really wanted TalkTalk due to it's price and offer of free international calls but I am too put off by all the bad posts. I will wait till I see some positive things happening... 2010 or 2020 maybe?
  • I have just written to Steve Rescorla today

I was supposed to be connected to Talk Talk broadband in July. To start with, I was not impressed that I was connected to the phone package in May – that meant that I was paying increased line/call rental on top of my previous broadband ISP payments – I am not a heavy phone user so this did increase my bills.

I supplied my MAC code when asked and heard nothing. I called the help line at the end of July and was told by the person I spoke to that I was in the cooling off period and that I would receive my start up pack within the week.

Two weeks later and I had heard nothing. I called again and was told that the MAC code had expired and that I would need to supply another!

I obtained another MAC code and supplied it – incidentally the call queue times are ridiculous, it may be free but I am a busy Mum and don’t have time to be on hold for long periods of time.

A few weeks after supplying the MAC code, my previous Broadband ISP cut me off with no word from Talk Talk. I called the help line and managed to get through to the automated username and password line where I was supplied with my details.

Fortunately I am a computer engineer and managed to configure my modem and email addresses myself.

The day after I connected myself to Talk Talk I received a letter telling me my MAC code had expired and that I would need to provide another (weeks after the event and the day after I had actually connected to them???) – seems to be a seriously bad communication problem within the company never mind with the customers!

I would like to seek some compensation as not only have I had to pay over £20 per month for three months to Talk Talk without getting free broadband, I have also been charged a one off £29 connection fee but have had to do most of the work to connect myself!

Also, my Mum could not connect using the cd as it would not install the modem, after spending £5 getting through to technical help at 10p per minute, they could not help and said they would call back in 24 hours - they didn't. I did a bit of research on the net and found that her PC needed a patch to accept their modem drivers so I downloaded it and fixed it for her - again I have done the work and they have pocketed the money for it.

If you have or know someone with a bit of PC knowledge, then risk it, if not, leave it until they have sorted their service out!

Did anyone see the article about this on BBC Breakfast news? They are asking for emails about it.

TalkTalk try and say the problems are due to demand, so why then has their broadband service been next to useless from day one and nothing has changed, it's still just as bad now.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • I dont believe my luck today I actually rang them at TT and got through in less than a minute, unfortunately also got cut off as fast
I redialled and again they answered the phone in less than 3 minutes.
I explained that I had been told by BTW to request a manual order be placed from TT in order to free my line of this E7 tag.
The lady went away to speak to support and came back with 2 solutions
    1. request a mac code (who from joe bloggs up the street ermm!! think not )
    2. contact BTW and request the tag be removed (ok maybe its me but i am sure that is why i am phoning TT as i had already done that route)

So I politely replied I have sent your company several emails to explain the tag still not being removed and my go live date is 31-08-06 but those i got responces from were not helpfull to say the least.

I have the go live date but not received my welcome pack ?? she claimed because i have a tag on my line they cannot activate so no welcome pack

Ok so i calmed down and explained again that I have done everything I possibly can I cannot do any more All i need her to do is action a manual order with BTW to speed up the tag removal.
If my line is not connected within 10 days of my live date then I will take the matter further and have my line removed from there hands regardless of 18 month contract. I felt they had a serious flaw in the supply of goods act and possibly duty of care as i have done all the work for them so far and i am simply requesting they complete a manual order (Not That hard to do surely)

The lady went away to support again and came back to say she was sending up an internal request to tech support to request they complete this manual order as per the lady at BTW advised.
WOWWWWWWWWW am i being blinded by TT or did I actually get a very genuine person ( think I will decide that one later when over the initial shock of someone appearing to be very helpfull)
I should get a mailed responce in 5 days she said so heres hoping this will get some action.

Sorry its so long a post I just wanted to give others a glimmer of hope
