TalkTalk broadband/phone (merged threads)

Thanks to RubRub for his story and the contact details.
There are a lot of telephone numbers for TalkTalk listed on http://www.saynoto0870.com/ (search by company name = TalkTalk) and some of them take you through much faster than the numbers advertised by TalkTalk. However there are constant problems with disconnected calls on all numbers. I am checking them one by one but in general my advice is to use the freephone number 0800 049 0049 for everything. Option 1 Registrations (Sales) answer the fastest and you can ask them to put you through to other departments.
I also would not have subscribed to TalkTalk had I known what I know now. My broadband was connected on time and then disconnected after a month on 25 June without notice. Since then I have wasted days - not hours - trying to find out why, with my letters & emails and TalkTalk's continual promises (of return calls, rebates. modem, reprovisioning deadlines ...) all being ignored and each department passing me on to another and putting me on hold until the line drops.
The latest is that TalkTalk say they have to generate a MAC for me so that I can disconnect from them and then I have to give them the MAC back so that they can reconnect me to themselves! After more pestering the MAC has now arrived but in the email a "Jason Enticknap of TalkTalk High Level Operations" warns me that they are going to charge me a Cessation Fee.
I shall be furious if they dare ...0 -

Mate of mine signed up ages ago - got his phone sorted no problem but now he is without broadband at all. His previous ISP has passed over his details so he has finished with them and TT have yet to connect him.
To make matter worse, for him, he is a MAC not PC user, and they (TT) have told him they only have two guys who know how to configure them and they don't work weekends......
He is not hopeful at the momentWe all evolve - get on with it0 -
I signed up with talktalk on the 19th April, my 'go live' date was given as end of July. By the first of August I still hadn`t received my start up pack. I called cutomer services (in India) who told me my username and password, and that I could use these with my old modem. The advisor told me that she would re-order a start up pack for me, and that I could expect it to arrive within ten days.
12 days later, I emailed them to say that the start up pack had still not arrived. A reply came 5 days later to say that a pack had been re-ordered.
25 days on and still no start up pack! I telephoned them again to say that at the end of this month Orange would no doubt be terminating my old email address and therefore needed to set up a new account with them very soon. The advisor took me down the route of setting up a talktalk webmail account, which seemed to solve a problem in the short term which would tide me over until I receive a tart up pack to configure a more permanant solution with outlook express. He put me on hold while he traced where my pack was. 10 minutes later I was cut off without a reply.I phoned back to another advisor who has re-ordered another pack for me.
Things have not quite gone according to plan though, as for the last 24 hours (and counting) I cannot get through to the webmail service. So I am sat here trying to work out whether it would be less painless to either call them again, or bang my head on this brick wall at the side of me!!!!!!
If anyone is considering signing up then please wait until you hear that all the problems that cpw/talktalk are experiencing have been addressed, otherwise try and have a good sense of humour when you have to deal with them. At least if all the modems do turn up, I may be able to compensate myself for the phone calls to customer servises by selling the spare modems on ebay!0 -

TalkTalk may have their problems, mainly due to the vast number of applicants but it makes no difference if you have a PC or a Mac!
PC minimum requirements:
Pentium 200MHz processor or equivalent
128MB system memory (RAM)
16-bit sound card
Four-speed CD-ROM drive
800x600, 256 colour display/video card
150MB free on hard drive
Windows 2000 or higher
A spare USB port
Mac minimum requirements:
PowerPC 601 or equivalent
200MHz processor
128MB system memory (RAM)
Two-speed CD-ROM card
800x600, 256 colour display/video card
100MB free on hard drive
Mac OS 9 or higher (or OSX)
A spare USB port
Shouldn't your friend know how to configure his own computer?

They have been having problems since they first launched broadband more than 2 years ago, they haven't managed to fix the problems in over 2 years, what makes anyone think they will be able to fix the problems soon, fixing the problems costs money, TalkTalk have never wanted to do that. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Jason_Lloyd wrote:One of the major problems is down to which telephone exchanges their equipment has been installed.
As you can imagine all of the ISP's are moving to unbundle first in the areas that would give them the highest number of customers and the greatest returns, (inside M25 and major cities).
For those outside the main conurbations you're not going to get Talk Talk for some time because connecting 5 customers in a small exchange in a remote part of England is not seen as much of a priority against 200 connections in North London.
So for the user who is based outside of the main cities I'd look elsewhere for the moment or use a site like Samknows.com to check to see when you exchange has the Talk Talk kit installed.
I am not convinced that this is a correct diagnosis. I live in London, signed up in April for the Talk 3 International and "free broadband" and am still waiting for the broadband. In the meanwhile I continue to have to pay for my connection to the internet by dial-up. My mate who lives in the country (outside the M25) signed up in May and was connected to broadband in June. His explanation is that in their provincial exchange, which is a modern building with plenty of space, fitting the TalkTalk kit is easy. On the other hand in my exchange in London there is probably no spare space in an older building full of BT equipment - until BT engineers get around to relocating their equipment to make room.0 -
Hi there,
Could you please give me details of the website you downloaded the patch from? What is the patch called?
