1600 a month would get you a 2 bed property only in any number of decent zone 2 London places. Wandsworth, clapham etc. Nice places but Kensington they ain't.

A 4 bed would probably cost you 3000 minimum.

Of course I believe it is ridiculous that claimants are not expected to be more flexible in terms of moving area, but housing in London is far more expensive than anywhere else and this is where it will impact.

Why should LHA claiments be getting the "nice places" that working people cannot afford to live in. Seems wrong to me. Beggers shouldn't be choosers and should be grateful for what they get when somebody else is paying.

£104,000 is the current rate for a 5 bedroom property in Central London BRMA. An example of the households eligible for this amount would be a family of two adults living with an elderly relative and six children under the age of 16 (if paired with same sex over 10).

Would imagine that this applies to very few households.

If only they could keep them out of the Daily Mail!

Why shouldn't they be able to rent a property with an average rent?

    It happens, and it's wrong.

Maybe because the average worker cannot afford the average rent in many parts of London.

Perhaps they could just work harder?

True, but it is the current system that allows it to happen.

Or sign on and get it all paid for them.

    Well, it's a thought.
