what about these families that get thousands a week in housing benefit as the rules state that children over a certain age can't share and they have squillions off kids - will they be affected?

Last time I checked, there were only two different types of kids, the boy type, and the girl type.

Nowt wrong with boys sharing with other boys, surely ??? (and of course the same for girls)

Perhaps a lack of housing in the areas concerned forces the local authorities to rent privately at extreme prices?

Anyhow, with the new "maximum housing benefit" policy, this would stop this, I suppose?

Is a 4 bed the maximum size house allowed? As this policy of £400 per week is in relation to 4 bed houses.

I've started a thread on this in the Discussion forum - it affects, at the very least, all properties larger than 1 bedrooms in central London, plus I imagine, thousands of larger properties in the south east or perhaps other large cities, too.

The LHA for a 4 bed in the City of Brighton and Hove is £1396.15 per month.

My parents never claimed benefits and chose to buy a
bed house in an excellent are so my brother, sister and I could attend the best schools.
I shared with my sister until I moved in with my partner a coup-le of years ago. The only affect it had on me was my clothes and make up would often disappear.. only to turn up a week or two later usually having been worn! :rotfl:

Just looked in my area on RM. 4-bed houses: there are two at £925 and £1100/month

Within 10 miles (that's 15-20 miles by road and up to an hour by bus), there are 25, from £695/month to £1600/month. £1600 gets you a big, posh gaff, in a desirable area, over four levels. Detached.

its likely that new lha rates will apply to other sized rentals too, it would be nonsensical to limit 4+ beds to 1600pm but then have 3 beds at the same price or just under, therefore i suspect this will affect all claimants

....no, they can find a CHEAPER place to live. It will mean, however, no asylum seekers living in millionaires' mansions in London - which is a good thing.
