I don't believe asylum seekers get HB. I think you are referring to the couple of high profile cases in London where those who have been given leave to remain in the UK or have gained British citizenship and who have lots of children have tenancies with very high LHA?0 -
Budget statement re Social Housing speaks of ... ;
"Limiting social tenants’ entitlement to appropriately sized homes; "
And what about those who are forced to ask for their local authority for another house...?
When their neighborhood becomes unbearable, over-run with lunatic tenants who haven't the foggiest idea how to 'keep house' never mind care about their neighbours.
In some areas of Scotland, ever since Housing Benefit was made payable to the tenant rather than direct to their landlord, they've been inundated with tenants that keep houses just for having parties in ... I could go on ...
Are tenants placed in that position going to have to 'down-size' through no fault of their own And against their will?

Current allowance for a 4 bed house in Central London is £4334 per month.0

1600 a month would get you a 2 bed property only in any number of decent zone 2 London places. Wandsworth, clapham etc. Nice places but Kensington they ain't.
A 4 bed would probably cost you 3000 minimum.
Of course I believe it is ridiculous that claimants are not expected to be more flexible in terms of moving area, but housing in London is far more expensive than anywhere else and this is where it will impact.0 -
Sorry but I don't feel that you should be able to get a house under LHA in say Central London unless it's a council house so under HB. Move somewhere cheaper, yes they may have family but use the bus. Most working people would never be able to afford that.
Move to Bow, Finsbury Park or SE London lovely places with green spaces.0 -

You mean create LHA ghettos?0 -
Read this off another thread, with regards to the banding:
From April 2011, Local Housing Allowance Rates will be capped at £250 per week for a one bedroom property, £290 per week for a two bedroom property, £340 per week for a three bedroom property and £400 per week for four bedrooms or more.

Okay I was just giving examples of places cheaper than central London.0 -

£104,000 is the current rate for a 5 bedroom property in Central London BRMA. An example of the households eligible for this amount would be a family of two adults living with an elderly relative and six children under the age of 16 (if paired with same sex over 10).
Would imagine that this applies to very few households.0
