Emergency Budget: tax credit cuts for millions

Then it's up to YOU to do something about it !
If your ex is doing this then i gather he is also not paying the correct amount of self employed taxes and national insurance ?
Maybe a call to the tax evasion line would be of benefit to you ?
If he's self employed, he can't "pay himself a wage". Only if he were a limited company could he do that. So it's unlikely he can avoid tax that way.
So I doubt reporting him, for investigation will help in any scenario I can imagine. Perhaps if she believes he is self employed yet contradictory "paying himself a wage" she actually has no idea as to his status alone, much less any idea as to his profit or income tax.All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

people walking away from their debts.
I've corrected it for you.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Clearly, the entire US-led banking scandal bypassed you then, so it's no suprise to find you equally ignorant as to why public sector pay freezes are insane also. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

It seems the threshold next year is set at £41,329, but after that, in FY 12-13, this drops down to below £30k with the tapering effect starting at just £23k

As you have mentioned "ignorant", I take it you don't realise that the USA "banking scandal" was caused by people walking away from their debts too?

A large proportion of the scandal in the US was down to people who couldnt afford it and living on welfare taking out 100% mortgages.
Yes the banks were irresponsible for lending to them but why should people not also take responsibility of themselves and know what they can and can not afford to pay back instead of being greedy and wanting it all.0 -
Although I realise many private sector pay cuts & redundancies have already happened bringing much misery I think many people have missed the fact that the public sector redundancies are yet to come.
Goverment departments have all had their budget slashed by 25%. Over the next few weeks they'll figure out where they'll make their cuts in response to losing this funding.
We'll be seeing many more people on the dole queue soon.
Totally. THIS will be a bombshell - especially as he glossed over the details in the speech yesterday. Wonder what they'll entail....But I have to add that yes, as you stated the private sector have seen their pay cuts/frozen, job losses first, it is only fair that the bloated public sector follows suit. I just wonder where all these new jobs will come from then for those looking to supplement their lack of CTC & all the single mums... I don't recall seeing LOTS of incentives in the budget for new/existing business to want to start hiring again...0 -

Housing shortages and the actually requirment for somewhere to live, is what forced people into the hands of these scandalous mortgages.
Subsequent job losses, as markets and industries slowly collapsed then preventing them from making payments.
The whole sham in the US was far worse than here, but we are feeling its effects even now.
Interestingly that any sympathy at all lies with those that made billions out of those peoples misery.
EDIT: I've never known anyone describe the need for a basic house in their neighbourhood as "greedy" either, mind. All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

Where did I mention about public sector pay freezes?
The initial post was about public sector pay freezes. No one has said you made the comment.
I'm assuming, by that comment you have minimal background knowledge on the causes of the US recession?
EDIT: I suppose Sub-Prime mortgages are a new concept too?All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

With regards to the tax credit, I understood it as if you earn over £40000 then you won't be getting it.
Is a Down's person automatically always awarded the same rates of DLA ? If not then maybe it is to make sure she is not getting a higher or lower level than she should. Sorry if this sounds rude but it was my understanding that abilities (and hence needs) can vary amongst Down's just as they vary among non-Down's ?
