Emergency Budget: tax credit cuts for millions

Don't be so aggressive golfwidow - at least your DH can afford to play golf!! People in Local government are paid a lot less than the equivalent in the private sector during the affluent times. My DH is a chartered civil engineer and is paid under £35K with nealy 20 years post grad experience. Do you know what he would earn in the private sector?!! And I can hear you now well go and work in the private sector, yes and who will design all the new schools that this govt is funding(or not!)?
Do you know how many years he studied and didn't earn?
People have trouble distinguishing pay and pension in central government to local government. Central govt and the NHS are only getting a 2 year pay freeze, local are getting a 3 year. The central govt pension scheme is much better than local and central govt and police do not have pension pots, so when the media get all arsey about 'us' paying for public sector pensions they are confusing central and local govt. Local govt has a pension pot just like occupational pensions.0 -
i have looked over my post and cant see anything in it that is aggressive, let me tell you a little bit of how we have stuggled over the past few years, my husband is a sub contract joiner with over 28 years experience, he worked for he same building firm faithfully for over 18 years, then on the 5th of november 2008 the foreman came to him and said "sorry mate thats it no work on," well to say it came as a shock was an understatement,we trawlled the internet, the papers, got on the phone to agencies and there was nothing, it was a very bleak and frightening time, but we kept on looking and in the end we managed to find him something miles away from were we live it took him almost 2 hours there and 2 back each day leaving the house at 5.30am in all weathers snow etc over the snake pass in his old escort van, but we managed because we had to, we had no back up no redundacy package, in fact there is no help of any kind for sub contract worker in the building industry an industry that has been hit very hard, so when i hear people moaning about their income being frozen it does make me a little bit angry0

patchwork cat I am going to defend golf widow here, someone else qualified would be happy to have your husbands job if you/he feels he is underpaid, then he could go and earn much more than £30-£35k, he could then afford to play golf and we would still get our new schools designed by someone else.
you slated someone earlier for making assumptions, don't assume by a username that golfwidows husband pays a lot of money to play golf or even plays at all, maybe he used to but can't afford to now, eh?
Golf widow, I feel for you, those hit by real reductions in income are going to find it really tough.0 -
hahahahahaha. the CSA. hahahahaha
my ex is self employed and pays himself a minimum wage so that the CSA can't touch him
Then it's up to YOU to do something about it !
If your ex is doing this then i gather he is also not paying the correct amount of self employed taxes and national insurance ?
Maybe a call to the tax evasion line would be of benefit to you ?0 -

my husband works, i dont claim benefits, i have 2 children of school age,i have been looking for a nice part time job that will fit in with my childrens school hours for over a year now,and i can tell you there are that many about
Yes...exactly...but i take it you are SEEKING work ?
Theres a massive difference in someone who is at least trying to find a job and others who are MORE than hapy to sit at home all day watching day time soaps in their pj's.......ciggie in one hand and a mug of tea in the other !
As you say , you dont claim benefits so my post wasnt refering to you !
Think we all know someone who meets my description as above . dont you ?0 -
joanne d, obviously I have looked at this and he pays exactly what he is supposed to pay. I think my point was, sometimes money just doesn't come on a plate from absent fathers and the government (CSA) can't make them pay under certain circumstances when the money just isn't there0

Local govt can not recruit at his level - there are not plenty of applicants- they actually employ agency staff as they can not fill the posts. Six months ago they had a recruitment drive and they couldn't fill the posts, even though they advertised extensively in the professional publications. I am not kidding there were a number of vacancies, but 1 had only 4 suitably qualified applicants that were invited to interview, 1 turned up!0

hi joanne , i know exactly the people that you refer to, in fact there is a woman that lives on the next street from us, she is single and has 5 kids and is probably much better off than us,0 -
.
thats quite a sweeping statement, you are basing your assumption on what exactly?? I certainly don't have anyone around to help and I know of 5 other single mums who live within a 3 mile radius of me who are in the same situation. I looked at care work, the shift pattern required is impossible to manage, shifts 7am-10pm or even nights/weekends. pub work requires evenings and weekends. you must live close to a call centre to suggest that and certainly within good travelling distance of all those available jobs with hours to suit. I bet the unemployment level is really low in your area as there are clearly so many jobs available!
I admire your sister though well done to her, despite not having family to help I have always worked but it is not easy sorting it out.
Actually most people where I live don't work and DON'T WANT to work. They have kids AND family around them but claim they can't work.
Why do you need to live near a call centre to work there? I'm not suggesting miles away, home care where you can work the hours you want, cleaning. Actually someone just started at the care home I work at and does 1 day amd 2 evenings due to having kids. I know people who work in pubs who have kids.0
