We were talking about this today at school. I'm doing a course in a school that offers wrap around care. This particular school doesn't run childcare in the holidays but a school 3 miles away does, and will take kids from all over the area.

(if anyone doesn't know, wrap-around care is breakfast and after school clubs/childcare, usually run at a child's school)

Unless changes are announced to the Education department - then all schools needs to offer some provision of childcare from 8am - 6pm every day from either 2011 or 2012 (can't remember which) under Extended Schools.
So that should support those going back to work.

It also states all changed to tax credits will take place in April, what they didnt mention on tv but Ive read in the booklet says the over 50 element of tax credits is being removed too.
Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.
  • I have to say, as someone on IS at present, I agree with most of the proposals, why should someone receive 400 pounds a week for a house, and I have always said I will be going back to work when my daughter starts school, and am looking now that she has, I dont see why others don't feel the same, I also won't be limiting myself to just term-time, its not other people bringing up your kids either, they would have been at school during that time anyway............

Also DLA is widely abused, hopefully this new medical will weed out the fakers and scroungers so that the people who really need it will get it, and not be stigmatised as scroungers.

The HIP, I think was a waste of space given far too late in pregnancy, and widely used to buy things that dont contribute to a healthy pregnancy either.........

anyways, back to my job hunting :)

Changes to claiming Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit

There will be changes to the income levels (thresholds) and withdrawal rates for claiming Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit from April 2011. These include:
    • raising the second withdrawal rate (the amount taken off your tax credit entitlements depending on your income) to 41% from 6.67%
    • lowering the amount of your income not taken into account to £10,000 from £25,000

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

  • I don't understand the tax credits.

My husband earns £18K and I earn £6K. We have three children and get £91 a week in tax credits.

Does this mean we will get less money per week?

I know the personal allowance is going up, but that doesn't affect me at the moment. The youngest starts school in September, so I may be able to get more hours or a second job to make ends meet.

No you shouldnt do as the only cuts to it applies if you earn over £40k which you don't or if you have a baby under 1? If you have a baby under 1 you will loose roughly £10.50 a week

Your husband will bring home a few extra £s in his wages though due to the personal allowance increase

I also agree with earlier comments thwe 15 hrs free a week for childcare is to prepare the child for school and its good for a child to interact with others their age as it aids their developement in particular speech and confidence. DD was very very shy wouldnt talk to anyone and preschool has bought her out of herself and shes looking forward to school as its not so much to adapt too as a child staying with their mum 24/7

I think it is £13,500 but it could be £13k, definitely no higher than that though.
