Sounds good - might try to find it - on ITV website perhaps?

I did have a look on the ITV website before I posted to see if the whole recipe is there, but couldn't find it. I've just had another look and found the homepage for the Looking Good Feeling Great programme (just go to ITV.com and put the title of the programme in the search facility on there and you'll find it), and the recipe for the home made muesli was on there, but not for the bars. Muesli recipe as follows:

    Muesli

    Mix the following ingredients together:

    Oats
    Dried cranberries
    Dried blueberries
    Pumpkin seeds
    Sunflower seeds
    Sesame seeds
    Chopped hazelnuts
    Dired papaya
    Dried figs
    Dried apricots

Serve with milk or yogurt and flavour with honey if desired.

I've also just found this link on the Internet, it makes low fat muesli bars and sounds quite nice! http://www.recipezaar.com/172417

    Hope this helps a bit.

My children have all gone back to school today and we're back to the packed lunches. One of their favourite snacks for after lunch (sandwiches/salads/hm sausage rolls etc and fruit) are museli/cereal bars.

I think they're better for them than the average sweet snacks so I've been buying them........but they cost a fortune for three children. Surely I must be able to make something similar and probably better for them at home?

I tried thriftlady's flapjacks yesterday and they loved them. :A

Does anyone have any more recipes for this sort of thing, maybe a little bit lower in fat and sugar?

    Thanks,

These are a bit healthier, and are 'cakey' rather than brittle/teeth-shattering like most flapjacks  . Absolutely scrummy, and dead easy to make. I make a batch each weekend which sees OH through the week very happily... :)

    Banana Flapjacks

Will last a week if kept somewhere reasonably cool in an airtight container - not that you'll have them hanging around that long! You can also add e.g. nuts and chopped dried fruits to your taste.

    150g butter
    75g light muscovado sugar
    3 tablespoons liquid honey
350g porridge oats (jumbo are best)
    1 pinch ground cinnamon
    ½ teaspoon baking powder
    2 medium bananas

    1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

    2. Melt butter, sugar and honey in a large pan over a low heat until melted and combined.

    3. Remove from heat.

    4. Add the oats, cinnamon and baking powder – stir to combine.

    5. Mash the bananas well, then stir into the oat mix.

    6. Spoon into a greased 23 x 33 cm tin, packing tightly and smoothing over the top.

    7. Bake in the centre of the oven for 20-25 mins, until golden.

    8. Remove from oven and score into rectangles/squares.

    9. Allow to cool in the tin before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Don't have a go at me....but I just can't do flapjacks. Silly I know, but every time I try they're either too squishy and under cooked....or end up setting the smoke alarm off (well nearly anyway)

I'd say the banana flapjacks are pretty foolproof - just do what the recipe says, keep an eye on them while they're in the oven, and you'll be fine!

Me too! I can make cakes, bread, pastry, no bother at all but not flapjacks!
I'll try thriftlady's recipe and the banana flapjack one - thanks joggyb - always glad of another way of using up bananas that the family think are past their best!

Try thriftlady's recipe.....they worked first time for me, but let them cool before you try to cut them....I didn't with the first couple and made an unholy mess so I had to eat the all the squished ones to hide the evidence.:o

I'm storing them in the fridge wrapped individually, that way they won't get too soft and they can just grab one for their lunch boxes in the morning.

I am guessing you could replace the bananas weight for weight with some other kind of mashed fruit?

I love bananas in their natural state, but just don't enjoy them cooked - daft really.
