  • If you are still on the old Housing Benefit system, which seems likely, you need to move over to LHA. Different councils have different methods of doing so. Some will allow a short break in the claim (1 week) to trigger LHA. That means you get no assistance for 1 week, but if it also means your payments go back up by £20 a week, it won't take long to recover. Speak to an adviser at your council, they will advise the best route for you.
  • DMG, no never claimed IS.
Im sat here looking at the financial statement, its all the same numbers as when I was being paid £54.81 per week, it just says reason for change rent officers decsion recieved, decreased? When I spoke to the woman at the office today, she said house prices had gone down so consequently rents had gone down, don't know how they come to this conclusion when rents are shooting up right left and centre, obviously live in a different world to me?

I vaguely remeber this being mentioned when I had the change last year, when they'd underpaid me, but they decided to keep me on HB.

You clearly have not read the link, unless you are saying that the Rent Service are wrong?

Have a chat with them. They should be able to go through all the figures but I'm guessing LHA will be better for you.

you need to put in for IS i get about 950 a month and thats alot lower than yourself i no there is a bit of a diffence with the ib and is rate but dint think it was no where near that much,
  • Thanks everyone - you have all been so helpful - Ive been a mess today, but you have all helped me try and put the pieces together. I will hopefully be able to speak to them more calmly tomorrow, and I should have my nurse with me should I get stuck or start to panic. Crikey, what a day

Unfortunately they will not because someone claims Carers Allowance for them. It is a very odd rule!

The woman is talking nonsense! ;)

You need to find out whether you are on LHA or HB, and what is the full rate that your claim has been assessed on. Then you can do the calculation yourself (we can help), and base your appeal around that.

I would definitely put in a claim for IS. If my calculation is correct you will receive less than £10 per week, but it will make your HB/ LHA entitlement so much easier to calculate!

I'm not sure if it has been asked already, do you have savings above £6,000 or £16,000?

I'm going offline now, but will check back tomorrow afternoon.
    Gone ... or have I?
