My pet hate at mini roundabouts? People who think you have to drive around the painted circle.
Strictly speaking you should if your vehicle is capable of doing so. Of course few people bother as they're a pain in the !!!!.
It's worth bearing in mind that the painted circle can be very slippery, especially if they're the kind where paint has been used to create a slightly raised mound. I came a cropper on one of those in my first car in the wet, and slid into the curb. Fortunately no damage apart from to my pride and my tracking.0 -
If you were going "straight ahead" then there was NO need for you to be indictaing RIGHT at any point in time !!!
You should have approached the roundabout NOT signalling and then just after you passed the exit BEFORE THE ONE YOU WERE PLANNING ON TAKING you should have signalled left !
Ok,,,, admitedly the other driver should have waited until you had exited the roundabout before he entered it but its not going to be as clear cut as that when trying to prove "blame"0 -
The road layout at that roundabout is clearly a Y shape as shown in the street view image.
Assuming that the sign also reflects the Y shape then a left signal is valid. The 3rd party in the OP is trying to claim that the OP did not signal right on entering and therefore it's her fault.0 -
Where are people reading about a left signal??0
-
I was taught to signal right if the exit straight on is beyond 12 o clock, as I said its not so clear on google maps, but it really is beyond 12
I only passed 7 weeks ago so defo recall this as what i was taught, blame my instructor lol0 -
Am i the only one getting this or is there somthing I AM MISSING ?
At No point in time should you have been signaling RIGHT !!
You are going STRAIGHT ahead YOU SHOULD NOT SIGNAL you have just passed the exit you want and then you should signal LEFT to say that you are going off the roundabout
Im not saying the op is to blame for the accident because the other driver should have been more aware of her on the roundabout BUT the op giving incorrect signals dosnt help matters !0 -
They signalled right upon entering the roundabout because they were taking the right hand exit, there is no straight ahead at this roundabout. Then they signalled left once they passed the first exit.
At least that is what it says in the OP and the street view image supports it.0 -

I'd be interested in any opinions on a knock I had last week. I've only been driving 7 weeks so was quite scary.
Basically I was crossing a mini roundabout straight across it. The exit is to me beyond 12 o clock - i was taught to indicate right if the exit is beyond 12 which is what I did. Appraching the exit I then indicated left to show I would be turning off.
Anyway, a guy came onto the mini r from the left and went into me, hit me on the front right side at my wheel hub and some damage to just below my front light
It was all very polite, although he said to me I didn't see any indication.
I think this is immaterial as you do not have to indicate if going straight across, plus you have to give way from the right (ie where I was coming from).
He rang before and said he'd been the garage who told him it would be 50 50, and did I want to just leave it at that.
I said no, I also have a witness who said he saw him cross over the give way line when I was well onto the roundabout and getting ready to turn off. I think it was a case of him misjudging my speed and thinking he could make it across the mini r before I got there.
Boyfriend was with me which was lucky as I was shaking a lot!
Below is a link to the roundabout from google maps.
For him to have hit me where he did, the front of my car was basically approaching the middle of his give way line (from the left). Does that make sense?
Its my dads car and hes on hols till monday so its really his choice about what we do.
Ive not had much luck with this car, some of you may have read about someone siphoning off my petrol the first week I had it!

LUM - I think maybe you need to re-read the op ?
She says in the first few lines of the post that she was crossing a mini roundabout GOING STRAIGHT ACROSS IT !
No where in this post does the poster mention that she was going right !
What i say still stands......going straight ahead at ANY roundabout be in mini or any other kind you DO NOT INDICATE ON APPROACH BUT INDICATE LEFT JUST AFTER YOU PASS THE EXIT BEFORE THE ONE YOU INTEND TO TAKE!0 -

She also states that it was beyond 12 o'clock, something which is pretty clearly a right. Looking at the streetview it's about 2-3 o'clock, so definitely a right.
There is no straight on exit from that roundabout. What there is is a left turn immediately after the right hand exit which IIRC most people using that roundabout coming from that direction just plough straight through and treat like it were a crossroads (it's been about 6 years since I lived in Liverpool though). This is what I took to OP to mean when she said she is going straight on, but that's most definitely a right turn on the roundabout followed by an immediate left.0 -
Personally having looked at the google map, I would signal left to go and would signal right to go right.
The person to my right must give way to me when I am on the roundabout. You do not have to give way if I stop even to the right.
We have had the discussion many times on here about roundabouts.
You give way to the right, when the person is on the roundabout
Is not straight on all so a signal would be needed.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
