I'm finding this thread a bit weird (no pun intended)

I have three people who I would stand up and say were friends. Two of them I never see - but if I went there I know they'd have to take me in :)
One I see a little more often, but not a lot.
I don't count OHs because they have a special status..which can vary depending upon a variety of things :)
I have many accquaintances (sp?) (It's late)
But my best friend is my dog - no contest.

My family were always o/s. Mum was a wiz at spinning money, great cook and always knitting. My dad used to mend all our shoes and is still a great mender and fixer. Mum and Dad are a bit too frail now to do much but I think I learned a lot from them without really noticing it.

My sister is a good cook and very keen gardener - grows lovely vegetables and amazing sunflowers.

I love cooking, sewing and anything arty/crafty - renovating junk shop finds is my favourite.

Some of my friends around my age (50 ish) are o/s but some of my younger ones aren't - I think its perhaps because they are all so busy juggling jobs and families etc. Modern life is very hectic.

My Mum was OS but then a lot of her generation were. It was just the done thing. I have evolved into OS over the years. I have a few good friends but they are not very OS. Well I don't know what the general feeling over there is but here OS equates to being a tightarse. So I usually share all that stuff with DH or come on here to be amongst kindred spirits. :D
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

I have no t.v., I have 18 cats, I am vegan, I married a man 18 years younger than me, I can't walk far, in pain, ipso facto people see me as a boring old f@rt, I have no interest in "fashion", I prefer ethical shopping, I decided not to have children, AND I still smoke. Who'd want ME as a friend?

    Jo

I would - the 18 cats and no kids bit sold me on it :)
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I'm OS and so are most of our friends.

My mother-in-law on the other hand does her food shopping in Harrods

I have a few good friends, none of whom I'd call OS. Some of them do some things for example one friend makes her own bread in a BM, a couple have a SC, one likes charity shop finds (although spends a lot on the High Street too) & another uses vinegar on her windows but that's about it.
They seem to think I'm a bit extreme when I say I don't want to go out for a meal with them sometimes - HM food just tastes better, I know what's in it & I have more choice at home. We were on holiday with 4 friends recently & thought I was very odd when on the last night I said I couldn't wait to get home & cook my own dinner. Like Justin138 (who as others have said is simply an individual rather than weird) I'm a vegan & like to know EXACTLY what I'm eating.

I am another one with no real friends:o I thought I had a real true friend but I have realised she was taking me for a mug, my OH is my best friend.
TBH I find it hard to be girlie and do the 'right' things with mates, I am quite selfish I suppose. I have always been there for people but they have never been there for me so one by one they have gone out of my life, now I have animals that have replaced them. My dogs hear lots about me as I talk to them (now I am wierd:p )
I have never been in my parents pockets either so I have lerant a lot myself and have come on here for advice, I wonder now how I ever survived before the internet:confused:
  • I have some good friends but not any proper OS. Nearest I have is a friend who will put a frozen pie in the oven but go to the chippy for chips and she has no money:confused: ...shes half way there I suppose:D

Most of them have quite abit of money and dine out most days...ok for a special occasion but not a daily occurence (sp).

  • I'm another without any real friends, I'm a bit of a loner and quite selfish with my time (Have to give enough of it up to OH and DD). I think to have friends I would need to feel some connection with them and I find most people i meet just don't do it for me. The internet is great because it allows me to see that other people are out there who do have the same values and ideas. I do have acquaintances and I can think of only one who is OS.

I'm under the impression, my neighbours think we are poor because of my OS efforts.
