I see your point entirely, everyone appreciates the NHS but it costs nothing but courtesy to keep patients in the loop - and I say this as a clinician and NHS manager. Chronic condition aside, it is a total disprespect of time and also not ideal being NBM when it turns out to be unnecessary. In fact it is quite routine to think of remaining patient list last!

I once had an elective scan scheduled for an evening - presumably in an effort to meet clear list backlogs and comply with waiting times - which meant being not eating all day and then drinking 3 litres of water before the procedure. When I arrived I was made to wait for 30 mins before then being told that the list was cancelled due to staff shortages (which I read to be the locum not turning up). The radiology team knew this at 5pm but didn't bother to inform me beforehand or even when I arrived.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

Where did anyone say you couldn't rant?

I don't know why everyone who comes on here who receives anything other than complete and utter agreement in response cries 'ranting is what this board is for!'

No one has told you otherwise.

When was the last time you agreed with anybody?

And when're you going to start using a proper font instead of that annoying look-at-me-everyone one you're using at the moment?

OP - if you are unhappy with the treatment, the best thing to do is get in touch with the PALS office at the hospital - every NHS trust has one. They are the Patient Liaison service and are used to dealing with all sorts of problems from little niggles and queries to serious complaints. They might be able to either help your Mum or at least improve services for future patients.
    Good luck

I see the usual prats are still being negative to posts, but I can't see their contributions as they're on my ignore list. They are very very sad people.

The NHS is a pale image of it's former glory. Aneurin Bevan would be turning in his grave to see how it's deteriorated to this degree. I've experienced inefficiency personally and so has my bro. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and it took over four months for him to get the operation, by which time it had grown significantly and they had to remove even more than they should have.

The Labour party have decimated the NHS and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. There's far to many managers and not enough nurses and doctors. Also the problem lies with the service being swamped by foreigners.

    Just need to vent....

My mum was put on the urgent waiting list to have her gall bladder out back in february. She finally had a date at the beginning og this month to go in....which was cancelled a week and a half before she was due to go in.

A few phone calls later to try and find out when she would be sorted due to her constant pain got an op date for today. She went in last night, and was nil by mouth from midnight. She was last on the list for theatre this morning and so she waited, and waited, and waited. At 2pm they put her on a drip as she was still waiting, and then at 4pm they just came up to the ward and said that they had cancelled her as they didn't have enough time left!!!!!! No apologies.....and when my mum asked when it would be done they said they dont know and she should just go home and sit there and wait!!!

    For fs!!

I'm really peed off with them all. She is in constant pain, and nobody seems to care

I know nobody can give me any advice.....unless of course there is a free and willing surgeon lurking on these boards ;) .....just needed to rant :mad::mad:

I'm sorry to hear about your Mum's op being cancelled.

I think the bit in red bold is the most important thing about your post.
OK, so the operation prior to your Mum's over-ran but to offer regret about the inconvenience and distress caused costs nothing.
Your Mum should have had an apology at the very least.

If people complain formally about poor treatment then there's a chance that it can be addressed and improved. People usually can't be bothered to do that.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Nurses are quite well-paid, aren't they? When you take into account shift allowances and all that?

Yes you are so right. Some people seem to jump on OPs attacking them for no good reason. If they don't like the thread why don't they just move on.
