Just need to vent....
My mum was put on the urgent waiting list to have her gall bladder out back in february. She finally had a date at the beginning og this month to go in....which was cancelled a week and a half before she was due to go in.
A few phone calls later to try and find out when she would be sorted due to her constant pain got an op date for today. She went in last night, and was nil by mouth from midnight. She was last on the list for theatre this morning and so she waited, and waited, and waited. At 2pm they put her on a drip as she was still waiting, and then at 4pm they just came up to the ward and said that they had cancelled her as they didn't have enough time left!!!!!! No apologies.....and when my mum asked when it would be done they said they dont know and she should just go home and sit there and wait!!!
For fs!!
I'm really peed off with them all. She is in constant pain, and nobody seems to care
I know nobody can give me any advice.....unless of course there is a free and willing surgeon lurking on these boards
.....just needed to rant :mad::mad::mad:

Perhaps there were more urgent cases that needed to be prioritised? Delays are unfortunate, but would you rather someone died because they did your mum's surgery instead?
If you think so little of the NHS feel free to go private.Gone ... or have I?0 -
And these doctors and nurses do a VERY challenging and often thankless job in difficult circumstances, the nurses in particular are extremely hard working for relatively low rewards.
Do you think your mother's operation was cancelled because the doctors and nurses just didn't feel like doing it or because they had no other option due to the limitations they find themselves working under every day?

I dont think the OPs anger was directed at the drs and nurses more towards the admin. probably.0

Thank you poppyoscar
My anger was not directed at the doctors and nurses at all....I am actually a nurse myself so I know how things work, and I have the up most respect for the job that they all do!! Mum's operation was actually cancelled because the routine operation before her took longer than expected. I understand all the reasons, but does that mean I cannot RANT. I thought that was what this board was for :cool:0 -

I understand your feelings. It is very hard to see someone you love in pain. I hope your mum gets her op very soon.0 -

I don't know why everyone who comes on here who receives anything other than complete and utter agreement in response cries 'ranting is what this board is for!'
No one has told you otherwise.

I've a feeling there might be something stopping her from doing that0 -
For someone to have been in pain since february I think is unacceptable. Why should she have to go privately, the NHS isn't all about emergencies.0

Which makes your rant even more ridiculous! You know that medicine is not an exact science, what did you expect them to do - leave the earlier patient open on the table?
Rant away, but at least make it a reasoned rant.I've a feeling there might be something stopping her from doing that
Yep, and maybe if the OP lived in a country without the NHS she would be grateful for what we are given.POPPYOSCAR wrote: »For someone to have been in pain since february I think is unacceptable. Why should she have to go privately, the NHS isn't all about emergencies.
Do you think she should be prioritised over emergencies, or someone that is mid operation?Gone ... or have I?0 -

Don't be ridiculous. Obviously they take priority as has happened in this case.My point is I don't think she should be having to wait all this time .Adequate provision should be being made in the first place. The OP is a nurse she is better placed than anyone to comment.0
