When a company's share price goes up from 60p to 375p in 6 months one has a natural tendancy to assume that the bulk of the value accretion has taken place and it is time to move on

Mr Bassoon, I liked your analysis. Regarding the bit I quoted from your post, I thought similar with Cairn Energy years ago, when I was much younger and had no cash. I watched their share price shoot from £2 to £9 and thought that was it done.
Then it went on to £20 pretty quick, then £40 before the dilution in recent years.

Here's hoping XEL does the same.
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)
  • My investments range all the way from Cash ISAs right up to errr cash ISAs. (I have about £44000).

I fancy a £1000ish punt on this, but don't know where to start. How do I buy them? can I put them in an ISA....If so how?

My other option was to buy 500 Euromillions lottery tickets this Friday. :j

btw what do you guiys use for your live share prices ?

I use MoneyAM for live prices and ADVFN for live trades. Both are free and both are live.

MoneyAM needs refreshing occasionally but if you refresh twice in succession it sticks for a while.

ADVFN needs refreshing every few seconds if you view the live streaming trades, but you can use the second option in the list of historical trades with not too much hassle. I have ADVFN on automatic refresh every 30 seconds using Refresher.

Now is a good time to buy XEL as it's still good value and has only risen say 20% on pre-flow test highs and is now derisked further but with further upside and news expected which will drive the SP higher in tne coming months.

I have heard rumours of takeovers on the cards (haven't we all) and would not be surprised if we saw a "Statoil has approached us and we are in talks" RNS over the next coming days or weeks.

    Hope this helps

Have a fine Xmas and New Year Y'all

Yes, you can put them in an ISA. The least expensive method that I have found is the execution only service at http://www.x-o.co.uk where buys and sells cost only £5.95 each. Visit X-O and open an ISA account. Your purchase of XEL shares within the ISA and any gains will be free of income tax and capital gains tax.
  • But then again I doubt a 1000 punt is going to be subject to any CGT unless of course it goes to say 100 quid a share!
  • From small acorns large oak trees grow. We all have to start somewhere <g>. After an initial £1000 punt he/she may do more research and realise the potential of this share and invest more. That's what happened to me after my initial purchase at 93 pence.
  • I know that but the point is that you don't benefit from them being in there so why bother?

the only thing id ont like about xo is you need to set stop losses daily !!!!!! !!! has that changed

p.s does anyone here use level 2 data and the premium toplists

p.p.s averaging up is a very good way at risk reduction

eg £1000 at 100p per share initial purchase
    sp rises 50% to 150
then £1000 at 150p per share current price
    therefore holding is
    £2500 at 150p thus 2500/150 = 116p per share
  • I have taken my money off the table in my trading account. Sold at £3.93. I'm sure I will regret it, but we had a great Christmas. I think these will drift down a bit as the hot money moves off and the news quietens down.

I will monitor and plan to buy back in with my Sipp at anything near £3.20 and hold for the long term.

    I had a great ride/education with these.

    Thankyou to all your posting.
