Cant you secure another few hours work per week somewhere else to make it up - bar work, restaurants, even a paper round would earn you a few extra quid?

i hadnt thought of that, smart !!!!.

the thanks i gave you were thanks of sarcasm xx

So working at £93 puts your income at £4863 a year, below the tax paying threshold.

You probably would get some HB due to your income.

If you qualified by working an extra hour you would get the following (based off your information)

WTC/CTC at £182 is £9464 a year paid out to you by the tax payer.

CB at £33.50 when baby arrives puts you at £1742 by the tax payer.

    Total: £11,206

how about doing something self employed for a few hours a week, do you have a local free newspaper, ours is always looking for people to deliver it for a few hours a week.

we already get housing benefit, and already have one child too, they told us we would get higher CTC and WTC because our daughter is disabled..

my income per year is £5263. that takes me over the threshold right?

i told this to the guy when i first called about claiming and he said i was eligible....

The one easy solution that has been mentioned above, one that would legally entitle you to the WTC and higher CTC payments, is to obtain another part time job - even if only four hours behind a bar one night per week. Considering the extra you would get in terms of the extra four hours pay, AND the extra entitlements to benefits - it's hardly alot to try and get. Actually, it would make your hourly pay for those four hours about £30 per hour!

How did you expect to provide for a family when you are only working 15 hours per week? You've had however many months (your girlfriend is 'heavily' pregnant) to make plans for the extra child to provide for. If you are only working 15 hours per week, then you don't qualify for the WTC portion of the benefits - those are their rules. If somebody told you that you did qualify (you say based on your P60 information) - was this on previous year's income when you were working more than 15 hours per week? If your situation has changed, you need to give them current information - as if this is the case, your new working hours would disqualify you.

Do they not offer overtime in your workplace? Supermarkets do have overtime weekly to cover sickness, annual leave etc. When I was a teenager I worked a whole year doing weekend overtime.

I know times may have changed, and we are recovering from a recession, but theres no harm in asking your manager.

I hope you do work something out with them to support your family.

Most people need to earn more than £6475 from employment before they will pay income tax.

If your earning £93 a week are you paying Income Tax and National Insurance? Or is it £93 with 0 deducutions for PAYE and NI?

If its the latter then you it won't count towards a state pension.

Does your Housing Benefit cover all of your rent?

I work at Asda too, and im contracted to work 15 hours a week, But theres always at least some overtime, not every week but averages out i work 16 hours a week.
I work 4x 3hrs 45 min shifts, and even sometimes by the time I clock in and out - depending how busy it is on the tills etc can add up to 16 hours easily
They are always asking me to come in a little early now and again or covering shifts etc for people

Sorry but there must be something you can do? For an extra hour a week.

This is what is so wrong with the benefits system, you have a disabled child which the state will help fair enough, but looking after children especially those with additional needs is not cheap.

So you then go onto have another child and you have had a good 6 months if she is heavily gone to up your hours, but why bother when the tax payer will fund your part time choice to the tune of £800 odd a month for 16 hours shocking!

oh believe me, I've tried, I've even applied for other jobs, but none have been successful, im trying and doing all that I can, i would gladly give up this part time crap that im doing now and work a full week of nights if i could get it.. ive been trying to get more hours/different job since we found out about the pregnancy last october....

I'm going to see the head managers at work on monday to see if there is anything they can do to help me with some extra shifts, as i believe my manager has got a personal problem with me, everyone thats in her little clique gets overtime, I'm not in the clique so I dont get any....
