Although I had proof of purchase I had to refund a buyer by £30+ as paypal just paid her back, told me if it wasn't tracked basically -tough. I can't afford that to happen, so I don't know what to do now. I have blocked the bidder. I might have to consider tracked postage as I just can't pay out any more for the item I have sold and has gone missing, I'm trying to raise money and had done quite well on the item and was really pleased but lost all that as I had to refund for the item and the postage, I have now lost the item I sent and forked out for postage and as I don't have the receipt for it I don't know whether I can claim anything back.

You need proof of delivery to defend an INR claim on paypal so your proof of postage is nto sufficient.

However with a COP you can claim your loss from Royal Mail, get a claim form from the PO or there is somewhere online you can download one. Send it in with your proof of postage, ebay page and paypal page showing refund. Keep copies of it all. You cna actually start the claim after 15 working days, so you may need to wait a few more days yet.

You can claim for any missing parcels (under £41) from royal mail if they go 'missing' but you NEED to keep the proof of posting reciept. I keep all reciepts for 6mths. Unless you can find it i'm afraid it's tough :(

Soolin got there first lol if i read your post right op you don't have the reciept?

Oh, I think reading your post it looks like i misread the OPs. :o

OP, did you not keep proof of posting at all? If she started questioning you the day after posting I can't imagine you would have thrown the proof away knowing you might need it so maybe your post is being misread?

Don't worry about that, it's usually a way they try and catch out business sellers.

Submit your claim without it and if the decline keep arguing with them until they pay you out.

I sold 2 or 3 items at the end of May and they were all sent off on the same day.

Approx 1 week later I had an email from one of the buyers claiming it hadn't been received and asking whether I had sent it yet. I responded within hours saying it was sent the very next day after the auction ended (as all items were paid for straight away) and that she should receive it in next day or two (it was sent 2nd class standard) however if she doesn't, then let me know.

3 or 4 days later I heard from her again saying she still hadn't received. That was all that was said in the email. I emailed her back (again, within hours) saying that I would refund her immediately and sent her my apologies. I never heard anything after that until today when I log on to my eBay and find she has left me negative feedback saying "NO ITEM NO ANSWER TO EMAIL VERY BAD SELLER" and given me all 1* DSR's.

I have emailed her asking her to justify these claims, especially about the 'No answer to email' bit, but I don't expect to hear anything back. I'm extremely angry I have to admit. I have responded politely (and not in capitals) but its really dented my DSR's. I don't sell very often, I think about 100 things in last 2 years however only 45 have left feedback so these have really dented me.

What should I do to 'recover' from this or am I worrying unnecessarily?

I have 8 years experience on eBay and 2000+ positive feedback - up until three weeks ago, I had 100% positive feedback.

Three weeks ago, I listed about a dozen collectible science fiction models as Buy It Now, 9 sold, 8 were fine with buyer's happy & positive feedback.

One item wasn't paid for with 24 hours, so I emailed the guy for payment, he sent it reluctantly with a snotty message about "make sure it's wrapped properly" - yes, like I need to be told that with 2000+ positive feedback.

Buyer received the item, wasn't happy with the external box condition, sent me an email and because I hadn't responded within 15 minutes, filed a Paypal case.

Offered him a £10 refund or send it back for a full refund, no argument whatsover, the minute I received it I notified Paypal and he got his money back.

Sent him a polite email requesting we didn't bother with feedback at all, heard nothing else from him.

Relisted the returned model, next thing I see is that he has left bad feedback for me and told future buyers that I was lying about the condition of the item in the relisting. He also started sending me abusive emails through eBay's email system.

Phoned eBay on three occasions to get the feedback removed (it was the comments that were particularly bad because of affecting further sales), in the end I faxed a defamation claim to eBay and the comments were removed, though the negative feedback was left.

So if you think the comments are defamatory, you can have them removed and just need to tell eBay, in writing, why they are defamatory - I don't think they argue the why's and wherefore's of it, they just do it.

I don't know if they will reset the DSR's though, but it's worth trying.
  • So in other words you have no idea if what the poster said was true or not.

Buyers will not pay extra for recorded.

Smart buyers won't anyway. I always have a little chuckle to myself when I see sellers offering it for a extra fee, as it's your responsibilty to get the item to me, so why should anyone pay extra?

I pay what I want to pay, if you want to spend 74p of that money on a useless service then that's up to you, but as a seller I'd rather have it in my pocket not Royal Mail's.

As mainly a seller on eBay, I agree with you to a degree.

In my case, eBay's a hobby and therefore I don't have the power of big business to chase postal services for compensation if something goes wrong - so based on that fact, I will choose to send that item by an appropriate service, based on its value.

However, the buyer never pays any more than the postage amount indicated in the listing (unless they specifically request and pay for a different service) and I don't profit from postage either - I weigh each item before listing and round up to the nearest 50p above to cover some of the cost of Jiffy bags, wrapping paper, tape, etc.

I agree with eBay's changes of showing postage more clearly in listings but it's up to the seller what postage he/she charges provided it's clearly stated.

No one forces you to bid or buy an item on eBay and more fool anyone who doesn't read a listing properly first.

That was probably what set him off.
