The fridge uses the electrical socket / wiring in your house NOT Wif-fi, hence the need for the plug socket near your router.
The info goes into the plug socket of the fridge and out next to your router and then into your router.
Actually if you read through an earlier post from someone who has already been lucky enough to get one of these, a wireless device is attatched to the back of the fridge /wall by an engineer, thus not needing to have the fridge directly wired to your router.
It has also been said that this will be used in future so you can access your fridge and/or appliances via the internet when your not at home!!!
Website still not opening and saying it is being upgraded....0 -
Took about 20 attempts but eventually got my confirmation. Our old fridge freezer is falling to bits and probably costing us about twice as much to run as it should but we can't afford to replace it so keeping fingers crossed.
If any Shetlanders on here get accepted and you want to get rid of your old fridge freezer send me a pm. PLEASE.The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0 -
I rang npower up and asked about this and he went and asked someone and he told me to go to offeroasis.co.uk then click on the freebies bit and apply that way which I did and it was quicker then using the link on here.
It did keep stopping but when I scrolled up the page it was waiting for me to add our download usuage in GB ie 20 30 etc and then it went through easily
Hope this other link will help others
I was having trouble using the other link as well- must have been loading and reloading for about an hour. This one went through in about 2 minutes. Thanks!September '£10 a day' challenge- £15.82.½p/£300!0 -
Anyone know if you can use it as a second fridge or freezer in the garage? My main fridge freezer is built-in.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. As per this question, and no reference to wi-fi, I can only assume it uses the internal mains wiring.
"Are you using any networking equipment which communicates via your home's electrical mains? (This networking tends to be used instead of wireless for speed or security reasons, or to connect to devices which are not wireless.)"0 -
sandwell council ran this trial earlier in the year and i was lucky enough to be chosen i had the fridge freezer and have to say it is well worth the effort of filling the form in the plug required by the router is just for an addapter so you dont have to have the fridge in front room the fridge compartment is very big (plenty of room for the beer ) :beer:0

grrr, it just keeps reloading for me too, will try again another time.0

I've applied too (did it last night, after putting up with the many re-loads!)
My main appliance is built in, but the fridge half appears to be on it's way out. I can't afford to replace it ATM, so if I'm lucky enough to get one of these I'll just power my old one down and use the trial one as my main appliance. My free standing freezer (only a couple of years old) can get moved into my garage as my back-up/stockpile one, but the 'new' appliance would be the main one in my kitchen/diner.
Bit worried about the 'false info' statements though. I filled out the form for number of occupants and benefits in place now, but this all changes in September when DS moves out for Uni  Guess if I get a 'successful' notification I'll just have to chat to them about this before deliveryCheryl0 -
if it keeps reloading the same page it means youve missed an answer, relook at everything even if you dont claim benefits tick the 'agree to allow information to be used' box
my understanding is there is some kind of 'box' they need to plug into the electric near and your router but this doesnt have to be in the same roomI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
I've tried a few times to access the site this morning, and keep getting the following response:
Please call back later
Thank you for visiting npower.com.
Our site is currently being upgraded to make it even more useful and user-friendly.
We're sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Is anyone else having problems?
I think I'll try again this evening when I get home from work, hopefully be back up again then.
Thanks
