I've literally just had a phonecall from a man at Indesit who wanted the serial number so that he can arrange an engineer to come and hook up my FF to the internet. I've only had the thing about 7 months - I was wondering if they were ever going to get in touch.

Ok, fridge engineer been and gone. he did not have a clue, huffed and puffed saying im not a computer engineer, said they had been left the modems and told to get on with it without any training, so he left them with me and went on his way, having turned the unopened boxes every which way. Im not getting into the drama of it, I have my fridge/freezer which im using, and im assuming that while they're faffing, its guaranteed, that said, it would be nice just to get started. Seems a really bad setup for something that's meant to be the next technology.

I decided to search for this because I remember the big fuss at the time and suddenly remembered I hadn't heard anything since. Actually the article about the flycatcher CPU on BBC news reminded me.

It doesn't sound like technology has anything to do with it. With anything new they need to train the people who are supposed to fix/install/support these things. They don't because it's a niche thing that someone high up has come up with and they pass the buck and then play catch up when it takes off. That's an old problem, sadly.
  • Hi MSE we applied for the free freezer last year, and early this year we had an email saying congratulations you have been chosen for the free trial and you can have a hotpoint freezer and connect it to the internet etc. We have had it delivered and we are using it, the only thing is, nobody has come and connected it to the internet!! AND I dont have the original email which had the phone number on it. Should I chase it up?? If so can anyone help with the phone number please

Read back a bit - people have been waiting a long time for them to be connected so just hang on in there!

I haven't even got my freezer yet... Was told it was going to be delivered last September, but have heard nothing.

My Hotpoint-Indesit engineer came last Friday, knew exactly how to hook it up even though it was hist first one. He didn't know anything about the trial though and asked me some questions.

He also said the units (at least the FF) are excellent machines and the engineers hardly ever get callouts on them.

Unfortunately my broadband connection started going crazy about 6 weeks ago, have had two BT Openreach engineers out and they've now concluded that the line is too long to support a broadband connection (even though it has done so for the past 6 years). Subsequently my ISP has withdrawn my broadband service so I'm now internetless (it's like having your arm chopped off!). Waiting the phone call from someone now to ask why I'm not transmitting any data (and them to say they want to take the FF off me) :(
  • Freezer delivered about 3 weeks ago, did not receive initial e-mail just a phone call from Indesit asking when I wanted it delivered. Engineer just been, I was a bit worried as the freezer could`t fit in the kitchen and so I had put it in the garage which is well over a metre away from the router which is one of the specifications. The engineer fitted a box to both the freezer and one to the back of the router did his tests and thankfully all worked fine. A result ::j

Mine has now been connected to modem. The engineer returned today and fitted it really quickly.
