If you do significantly less, say 2,000 or 4,000 you'll pay more because you don't have much driving experience.
    Evidence please.
The graph shows people driving between 2,000 and 4,000 pay less not more.Thats a fact not an opinion.Claiming people who drive low annual milages lack driving experience is an opinion, not a fact.

what has been said about quinn is interesting as last year they beat all the other quotes by £120 but even so all the other quotes were around £600 so that can't account for all the increase as it's still a £400 increase.......I think it must be the area can't see it's anything else

thanks to the poster who suggested barclays i'll get a quote

Does anyone recommend going to a local insurance broker? do they have access to deals specifically for the area they are in?

Hey guys, quit fighting about mileage rating! Insurance is a very fickle calculation, which is different for each company. And you can't take one item in isolation - it would likely be combined with things like "number of years licence held" or "age of driver" etc. Some people will find that having a low mileage will adversely affect them, but not everyone. If it were easy to predict exactly which items would reduce our premiums, the insurance competition would take a very different shape.

Anyway - as a couple of people have said, the easiest and most dramatic thing you can usually do is add a named driver like a parent or some other very mature and clean-driving person. They don't ever have to actually drive your car (my parents live abroad and barely visit!) but your premiums will still drop.

Other than that, it sounds like you're a bit screwed and I'm sorry about that, it sucks :( It's why I sold my car last year - much cheaper to use public transport / occasionally hire a vehicle than pay the annual insurance (I'm 27 too).

Not because you wrote off 2 cars within a few months of each other then?

Heheh, well that didn't help the insurance, no :) To start with, it went up to £2,000... but that was years ago now (good memory!) so I'm back down to £700.

    :wall:

    1) The graph confirms that for some insurers those driving very low mileage (i.e. less than 1,00 miles pear year) will pay more than those driving slightly below average mileage, all other things being equal. That graph only depicts the approach of one scheme by one insurer, but there are others where any mileage under around 4,000 will result in a higher premium than a mileage of, say, 6,000 to 10,000 miles.

    2) When you posted
    (sigh)
    Nonsense.

    It was in response to:

Now it might not hold true for all insurers but it's not 'nonsense'.

Not the greatest advice, Insurers look up customers addresses when they receive a claim on google street view or you also have the chance of a loss adjuster visiting your home.
