The less you drive the less driving experience you have. It's not just exposure to other cars that creates risk.

As an example, which would be higher risk - someone that hasn't driven/has driven very little for 2 years or someone driving 12k a year?

You are confusing lower annual mileage with driving experience.Someone driving 4000 miles annually is not inexperienced.
    No evidence.Lifes to short

That is your opinion but iamana1ias is talking about facts. And the facts are that some insurers offer mileage discounts for average mileages whilst loading low mileage and high mileage policies.

As you want evidence, I will shortly post up a graph based on information from the rating guide of a private car scheme for a UK based private car insurer (not my employer), which confirms that what iamana1ias is saying is true for certain insurers.

    Here you go:

Problem is that the risk an area poses can literally change overnight. All it takes is for one serial fraudulent claimant to start operating in that area and insurers will totally hike their rates or stop quoting in the area.

My guess is that theres been a spike in car crime/thefts in the area over the year
    so its been reclassifieds
have you tried putting it down as garaged? see if it makes it worth paying for a council lock up

Hi all my postcode is L6(liverpool 6)

I haven't moved house I was here last year and the price seems to have gone up with everyone the cheapest is just under £1000(confused.com, moneysupermarket, tescocompare, direct line aviva, plus a few more)

My renewal date is end of july so my current insurer has not given me a renewal price yet(I rang them and they said they can't till 30 days before) but every year (5 years no claims) my insurance has gone down as I have got older and increased my ncb so you can imagine my shock when this year as usual I start looking at prices month and a hlaf before my renewal date and its double
I even went onto my current insurers site and got a new quote they wanted £1745 this is the same company who I am currently with for £481 (quinndirect):eek::eek:

I also have tried different occupation titles as some firms have mature student listed which I am but I am also a medical student and this does not make a difference others just have student which they might assume I'm younger but that never made a difference

I think that the clue is in who you are currently with - quinn direct. I believe (and I'm sure others will correct me if I am wrong) that quinn had lots of financial problems and were accepting high risk business (young drivers) at stupidly low premiums, to get money through the door.

There was a period a couple of months ago when they closed the door to new business (see lots of posts on here about quinn). They are now able to continue, but presumably are increasing the rates on their current business to shore up their losses.

Absolutely right - Quinn have had to increase their premiums by up to 300% - they were writing business for silly prices

Unfortunately for the OP they are in a high risk postcode and that is what is driving the high premium
