Speak to consumer direct / national debtline if you need help.
If you are in need, you could try a benevolent fund or trust fund.
I did once, but they are just a bunch of as5-wipes though,
so i gaveup on wasting me time bothering to try talking to them after abit as i could see they were too thick to listen to anything i was saying and aren't allowed to do anything except read and repeat 100x what it says on their script.
Im unemployed and so on benefits, thus have a limited income which is below the poverty line.
Yet they were saying the ONLY repayment plan they would accept was for me to pay £95 per month.
(£50 of that just repaying the outstanding balance)
But when i was unable to afford £45 per month for the last 6months,
i don't get where they expect me to magically now find £95 cash from everymonth!! :mad:0 -
I don't have a clue how they somehow manage to come out with me using 360-420kws of electricty (£46-£50) per month anyways though!:(
As i only live in a 1bedroom flat,
only stay there 9-12days per month out of the 30 (so would use only 1/3 of the electricty i would if i reside there fulltime),
and i always keep my TV/Sky Box/PS3/washing machine and everything else turned off from the mains socket overnight and when im not using them to save money on electricty!
So don't know how the fcuk im ending up being charged £50 for just 1/3 of a month's electricty usage for a 1bedroom flat!!:mad::mad:0 -

Why not sell the PS3?0 -

This is beginning to look like a matter of someone not prioritising thier debts.
I would seek debt coucilling rather than trying to borrow more money.0 -

So because you can't be bothered talking to them and paying only what you can afford you think its a better option to take out a loan and add "you don't care about the cost" interest on top of the amount you owe the electric company and that this is a sensible way to go.
We're I in your position I'd look at making small efforts to talk to people (for free) rather than the 'I'll just throw more money than I need to at this problem to make it go away would be a better approach....0 -
If you're moving back in with the parents then you should:
Sell the TV and PS3
Cancel the Sky
Do an SOA based on your situation now, and once you have moved home.
Then, call the energy supplier and explain the situation and offer them a lump sum payment (from the sale of the TV & PS3), together with a monthly amount based on your current SOA. Also let them know that your circumstances are changing, so, fro X date, you will be able to afford XX per month.
Then, advise them that you will send them a letter outlining the same and that you will make the payments on XX date each month and await their response.
Everyone else is right. Getting more debt will only make your situation worse, not improve it. As it stands, you should be able to resolve this issue in about 6 months which is no time at all!
Which energy company is it? I believe there are a few reps on the forum who may be able to help you if you are having issues with customer service.
Also, were you supplying regular meter readings? They could be overcharging you because they are estimating the cost, so a meter reading could reduce the bill (although, it could also increase it).February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

Actually they probably think the same thing about you.
Sell some things and cancel Sky,
Prioritise your debts or you will never get on an even keelmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I owed £600 to British Gas and ended up spending 7 hours on the phone to them.
I got put through to their complaints department in the end because no one could help me. You NEED to perserve with it though because I worked out a payment plan and paid as much as I could each month. As long as they know the money is coming AND you keep to your arangement with them they will keep off your case.
British Gas report to Experian and won't default you if you keep in regular contact + pay them as much as you can each month.0 -

Also, have you had someone round to read your meter? Because they're probably going on estimated reads in which case they will assume you're there all month0 -
I applied through the British Gas Trust people a couple of years ago when I saw it on MSE. They did not adjust my metre for 2 years dispite doing readings every few months. When they realised there mistake and the fact I should have been paying a higher amount I was over 1000 in debt with my gas and they wanted to put my monthly direct debit up to £230 a month. I think I actually cried on the phone to the poor lady at BG. I filled in the application form and said that I am able to afford my monthly bills at the moment. However, if this mistake had not happened I would not have to find £230 a month which I couldnt. I explained that finding this extra money would mean using my shopping money every month to cover the amount. I had a reply back within 2 weeks saying they were looking into it and within another 2 weeks they had paid of the whole outstanding balance and put my gas and electric account back to a £0 balance.
But it is true, they do say that they will only help people if there is a reason for the debt and if you can show it will help you financially with out the problem happening again.
As other people have said I would not get into further debt, you are slowely sinking further and further into what will end up a horrid situation but I dont think you can see it. Tell the supplier that you can not afford to pay and ask them to put a payment metre in for you. I know they charge a little higher but if you only stay in your house for 9 to 12 days a month then you only need to worry about putting money in the metre when you are there. They will also put your metre a little higher in order to charge money back for the amount you owe them to.
Provident, Shopacheck and payday loans should be looked at with great caution and every other option possible should be tried first. They target vulnerable people and get away with charging very very high interest and you end up in a cycle of living off them.
Are you actually moving back in with your parents? Or did you just tell BG that. I think it might actually be a good idea if you did. You could get yourself out of debt. Then when you are in employment and have more money coming in you will be in a better position to support yourself financially in your own place with out having to live below the poverty line all of the time.
Good luck x x0
