Edit: Ignoring Victoria's other threads which have seemingly caused some 'friction' the fundamental point she makes is imo a valid one
The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D

A lot of people have stated they don't use this site anymore because of this and that is just terrible, people wanting help will not post a thread because they are scared

Who and where are these people ? Perhaps you can point us in their direction ?

Nowhere does it state that responses have to be what the OP's agree with. The trouble is people get upset when others give them good, correct, sound, impartial and couteous advice, but because it doesn't fit with their way of thinking they begin to argue the toss even though they're in the wrong!

If you don't want to to told you're wrong and can't accept it when it's 100% correct then don't post on a forum.

Perhaps you should take some of your own advice and use it ?

Not that I condone the ignorant nasty people on here (of which there are a few!) but it does get frustrating when people post a question without even having a look at old posts to see if it has already been covered.
For example, on the utilities board there are countless threads started every day about a bill being huge and is it wrong! Not many of them have done the usual check your meter, give correct readings etc etc, they just want an answer for no effort
Exactly. How many times are there "I borrowed 20K, how do I get out of paying it back" posts. Many of the replies to these are understandably hostile. People post on a very contentious issue and seem suprised when they get shouted down, the same as they would in the pub. IMO there are far too many of that type of thread started on the forums.

Actually, I think the OP has a valid point. Take your sig for instance. I'm an optimist, and consider myself to be positive-thinking. I usually post positively, not negatively. Why would I want to take the time and trouble of flaming or putting someone down when I can contribute something positive? It's no contest for me.

In other words in life there's two types of people; givers and takers; or positive or negative thinkers.

I've seen loads of usernames on these forums simply posting because the childish, nasty, sadistic part of them wants to cause a bit of mischief.

    Why?

Maybe the OP just wanted a bit of support.
