I have just read a post about Asda, the op is jumped by some twit because it was posted in the wrong bit of the forum, he is rude and very short, a little bit of manners go a long way.

You may need to re read that thread someone points out that it was posted in the wrong place the the OP goes off on one. So the OP was a rude if not ruder than the person pointing it out. As you said a little manners go a long way

Do you not think that calling someone a twit is negative, nasty and rude?

Depends if its true or not! (and, as I haven't read the 'wrong place' discussion, I am not referring to that - just commenting generally)

:) Hi, it was my post, I responded to sarcastic comments when I was following up a previous thread. I didn't know about this forum so at least my vent was useful in one way. Thanks for the support from the majority.:o

True or not calling people that soon discredits what the Op was trying to say

I am relatively new to MSE but have lurked for about a year or so. Over the past few months I have been a daily visitor to the site and I feel I have to say something.
Some members of this site are down right ignorant, ill mannered and rude to people asking advice or giving their point of view. Just because you have been a member since the year dot and have 5000+ posts does not give you the right to cut someone down, be impolite and unmannered. A lot of people have stated they don't use this site anymore because of this and that is just terrible, people wanting help will not post a thread because they are scared of the rude or else joking response.

Yes if someone makes a mistake or posts something in an inappropriate place then by all means tell them but do it in a polite and courteous way. Why be so negative, nasty and rude??
    Why lurk for a year?

That seems pretty pointless to me.

Oh no not another whinging, whining post about how awful MSE-ers are!

If you don't like the way the forum is then leave - doesn't sound like you'd be much of a loss if you lurked for a year!

Is your version of calling someone a twit a 'nice' way of doing it, because reading that in your post has made you look pretty stupid.

Until you can practice what you preach, why not just wind you neck in.
  • Not that I condone the ignorant nasty people on here (of which there are a few!) but it does get frustrating when people post a question without even having a look at old posts to see if it has already been covered.
For example, on the utilities board there are countless threads started every day about a bill being huge and is it wrong! Not many of them have done the usual check your meter, give correct readings etc etc, they just want an answer for no effort

I agree that there are people who by their post count, seem to live on here and can be downright ignorant, I can only assume that they have such pointless meaningless lives they feel the need to post.
For instance there was a thread about people discussing different types of sink tops, turns out they were quite expensive ones
a long standing member felt the need to say they bought one from B&Q for £30, and "it's a sink for !!!!!!!"
It wasn't anything to do with the discussion nor was it constructive, it was just someone feeling the need to make their mark.
I read a lot fo threads on here and a lot of the time think, how stupid, pointless they are etc BUT I don't feel the need to tell everyone about it.

So come on you big alpha male / female flamers give me your best shot, I need cheering up :)
This forum is cheaper than therapy ;)
The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)
