ben500 wrote:As for point 18 freshly baked bread what you actually fail to mention is that Tesco still actively "Scent" their stores, (or until recently did) with various cooking and food odours to encourage impulse buys.
I have never known that happen in any store I have ever worked in.
I have obviously not worked in every store, but I always considered that a bit of a retailing urban myth or a practice restricted to limited locations.ben500 wrote:Point 13 yes the use of ambient music has decreased though not as you would say desisted but this is only because of the advent of "shelf talkers" which are far more effective and descriptive enabling the store to induce impulse buying again, I appreciate that as a marketer you should deploy all tactics reasonable to enhance the prospect of a sale but there should be limits, Tesco along with ALL major retailers display a distinct lack of respect and inordinate amount of contempt for it's clientelle and staff far too often.
Not sure what you mean by shelf talkers in this context. Something that makes a noise? How does that control the speed at which people shop (which is after all the purpose of piped music)?Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -
Just popped in for a quick peek..
Don't worry, Tesco won't pull this policy any time soon. This policy has been running for years now, and only a few months ago the company was reporting another massive increase in profits.
Whether you think it is morally right or wrong to R&R intentionally or not, i say you be the judge of that and do what you think is right in your own mind, but please dont force your opinion onto others. Keep it to yourself and move on, theres far more important things in the world to worry about and discuss..0 -

I agree with some of the earlier postings on this board, which are suggesting some of us are acting against the nature of the original R+R offer from Tesco, ..... threatening legal action - regardless of how right, or how wrong you are.... "actively" seeking to outdo T by deliberately going out with the sole inention of catching them out....to get something for nothing !!!....
How BL@@DY childish !!!
Can't you see that a few of us are ruining the offer for everyone...... you cannot see the wood for the trees !!
WE ALL like a bargain.... and when they get it wrong... yes, its good to see we get well compensated..... but is it so really necessary to the "n'th Degree" ???
Enjoy Life..... Chill !!
I see this is your first post of the night....have you read the previous 30posts....as everything you mention here has been brought up already and (I believe) dispelled.0 -

What a load of pants, I regularly report my misprices to T/S irrespective of whether or not I receive r&r I can't be bought. I'd report them all but I'm too busy shopping to spend all day filling out forms and making telephone calls. If someone reports them out of spite because they didn't get r&r then all well and good I say, it's a pity more don't, wouldn't you rather be paying the correct price for EVERYTHING rather than just those you notice?Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0 -
OH MY GOD, CALL THE POLICE, I GOT REFUSED TWO REFUNDS TONIGHT
1 for 3 off Megabloks Dragon eggs, assd (assorted), SEL 6.48, which didnt feel right, they scanned at £7.48 (or something like that)
got refused because the barcode on the SEL didn't match the barcode on the 4 different varieties of 'egg' there
also got told that the SEL was for a different product, which I queried as there is only 1 dragon, in an egg, made by a company called megabloks
manager refused again...................what did I do?..............grumbled, asked for my money back and WALKED AWAY TO GO TO ANOTHER TESCOS
i'll live to screw that store again another day
anyways, in another store, I happen upon welsh TS/TR/SS Beef, SEL 5.48, pack £6.29 (or similar), and some wrongly priced organic chicken
customer support refuse R+R on the beef saying i'd bought 'unfatted' beef, erm, it doesn't mention that on the label, nor the now mysteriously mising SEL............10.30Pm, what do I do, take the beef anyway, I wanted to do a roast this week, take the free chicken and walk away
at the end of the day, i've spent £14 quid to get over £50 of meat free, a worthwhile trip methinks, I certainly shan't be taking Tesco to court for slashing prices by 70% just for me:-)
Now, should I mention Acer Aspire 1692WLMi laptop that I picked up from a large store in South wales tonight?, TWO SEL's one for £599.98 and one for £699.98
it scanned at £649.98. R+R in the bag, biggest to date!, took 30 min of polte discussion and a brief management instigated call to HO! bang to rights, non 'ambiguous' plain good old fashioned misprice. i'm only a little miffed because I bought an Aspire 5100 last week, D'oh!money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

If I had been given such a reason for the refusal of my RnR on my PS2 and game I might have been more inclined to accept the decision........but I was told by the duty manager that I couldnt have an RnR because the amount was "too much".....and after pointing out the policy, i was barred from the store....Quite a different senario to yours.0 -
bagand96 wrote:That is quite a revelation you have there. I (and I assume many others) would be interested to hear how you know that and what proof you have.
I was told this personally by a TS officer – I can see no possible reason why he would make it up? Also it made sense to me because if it was not true – why wouldn’t Tesco simply revoke the policy? To quote yourself;bagand96 wrote:Tesco wouldn't have a problem revoking the policy. The vast majority of customers wouldn't even bat an eyelid, and if it did get public Tesco would only have to release a press statement "Due to abuse the policy has ben stopped, rest assured if you are overcharged we will still honour the lower price etc.."bagand96 wrote:The official line was that it was introduced when the new systems were launched integrating SEL's and barcodes etc, to assure customers that prices would remain accurate.I
I believe the reason they don’t is because the information given to me by the TS officer was correct & therefore they cannot. I am not surprise however that they have a different ‘official line’.bagand69 wrote:Sainsbury's did have the policy at one time I believe but dropped it. As for other supermarkets pricing being more accurate I'd be interested to know what that claim is based on also. Certainly we don't hear about them on MSE. But that's because its not lucrative, theres nothing to gain from reporting misprices in Morissons/Sainsbury's etc... And £2 from Asda is hardly life changing...
Sainsbury’s also had the same policy whilst they sorted out there pricing integrity – I presume that once that was done they were able to drop it ( but this is only an assumption of mine).
I was told in the same conversation that complaints about over charging by the other supermarkets were much rarer and I would think posts on this board would bare that out, whilst you say that £2 from Asda is hardly life changing many of the over charges posted are less that £2 – eg Aero chunky 2 for £1.80 - so if there were enough of them I’m sure there would be a thread!
I am passing on information that I believe to be true and can see no reason for Tesco to maintain this policy – with all the problems and costs involved if it were not true – I’m sure everyone is now quite happy SEL’s and barcodes tally (in most shops anyway!) so if that was the reason for implementing this policy – why don’t they just withdraw it?
I would be quite happy to hear if you have a logical reason why Tesco don’t?0 -
bleugh wrote:actually, you'll find that ASDA mis-charge quite a lot!,
it's only because they don't advertise the policy of giving a £2 gift very much that you don't hear about it and get prats shouting TRADING STANDARDS from the aisles.
Why be rude, why would you have to be a prat to mention Trading Standards?0 -

I think your time would have been much better spent taking Tesco to court for £4.16 worth Of Capri Sun. I mean, the principle is way more important than a free laptop, surely? :rotfl:I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!0
