paying off the mortgage for me is a lot about getting out of the rat race and being able to live a life more of my choosing than being at the mercy of an employer- not that I plan to not work, but knowing you could turn around and tell them where to stick it
Agree with you 110% there!
if you find some patience throw some my way huh?
Will do

Hi TYO,
SOA looks pretty decent. Not a lot of waste there but I too would worry about keeping up a hardcore level of tightening everything in sight for a number of years. Still, you've got a wee bit of slack to play with just now so don't forget to treat yourself (and Mr TYO) every now and again.

hello all
good news in tyo's household I have been paid today!!
bad news in tyo's household car seems to be on the blink cutting out twice on the way home... mrtyo is having a look as we speak to see if he can find out , hopefully fixable and not too expensive!
all things being equal should be able to chucking some fairly generous OPs at the mortgage from january next year!! looking at the max OPs it would look at the total amount being paid off in 7 years or so... but we will probably buy another place before that!
just need to keep trucking along for the next 7 years then :rotfl:0 -
Congrats, must feel great to be earning again! Did you decide to go back to old career, or pick a new path?
Hope car is easy (and cheap) to sort out!
7 years - wow! Ours is 10 years if we op'ed like we saved this year - but that is unlikely

hey mw
still thinking about what kind of thing Id like long term and the MF goal I guess is a big part of that of having more autonomy and control over how I spend my working life!
mrtyo drove the car without problem but as it died on me twice I am a bit nervous of getting in it and ending up stranded somewhere! (we have breakdown cover but Id rather know what was wrong with it first!) although a very nice man got out of his car and helped me push it to get it started again today so I cant complain I guess..
7 years would be a big push and thats bearing in mind I could stick to only £70 spending a month and £100 for food- has been ok whilst necessary but social life, going to visit friends etc I think to do it for 7 yrs would be pushing it! but I like to be optimistic (or an unrealistic perfectionist take your pick!
) if we sell it and buy somewhere with a bigger mortgage or combine the size of both our mortgages it would be a lot longer.... still, its nice to think we could own one place outright in that time at least! for me its about having more freedom in life, although at times I can get a bit obsessed with getting it gone "now" but thats often more to do with where Im at with life/work stuff and wanting more control and freedom than anything else! but giving myself a rough target makes it sound doable and even if its not kept up quite to that target I like to think at least Ive made a start! 0 -

fingers crossed on the car seems okay... dont wanna speak to soon! am wondering if it is possibly the battery or the connections to the battery cutting out (sounded like I know about cars then didnt I?!
) only as I have had that happen a couple of times on old cars...if it does it again will get it to the garage later this week..or might just do it anyway for peace of mind!
good news....my MF madness seems to have rubbed off on mrtyo !!!
I came in the other day to him reading about overpayment calculators and checking his mortgage to see how much he could OP and asking how I did it ..... only a few months of madness for him to be converted into the MF ways :rotfl: :rotfl: ... I think feeling/seeing that financially our lives could be much more stable this way (not without a bit of hard work mind you!) has really dawned on us what a good idea it is if we are able to do it and whilst we are working and earning enough to...
also working on a holiday fund for the summer and maybe a long weekend hotel break somewhere after xmas- in england but maybe somewhere with a swimming pool/jacuzzi/bar/nice food! as we could do with a break after the last few months! I am hoping that will be doable in the next 2 paydays before xmas!
nothing much to add- my first OP is due out tomorrow ...the pricely sum of £10 .... as they say , the way to eat an elephant is bite by bite (or something like that! )0 -

am feeling tired but enjoying being back doing something and earning money ... am hoping it will be a better experience than previously but am also keeping a lookout for things longer term which I think will be more satisfying and have more of a work-life balance! ..long term whem MF or less financial commitment on that side of things I would like to maybe do something part time self employed or working from home .. but thatll be a good few years off yet! but would be a good goal among others in getting MF

Hey TYO
Fingers crossed for the cars, am sure it will be fine...:D
Your OH sounds just like mine, they will convert once they see some results and whats in it for them..
A £10 OP is massive, its £10 less you owe on your mortgage.. ANy penny overpaid is a step in the right direction, the amount does not matter...
Keep an eye on last minute deals for your break away... Hotels tend to be quiet on Sunday nights, so you might be able to strike a good deal there.. Don't forget cashback as well..Or Tesco clubcard vouchers??

When your car conks out, are your lights, radio, wipers still working
If they are then the problem is with your engine/fuel/injectors
Do you know when the spark plug where last changed also it might be worth checking your leads from the sparks plugs, these can get damp/frozen and cause the spark plug to not ignite, which means no exploision of fuel, which means no power
