I weighed myself this morning, I'm the heaviest I've ever been  I really need to do something about this, but am not in the right frame of mind at the moment, it just seems like another thing to worry about and more pressure on me.

You could try initially concentrating on doing things rather than denying yourself things. So instead of trying to restrict calories, you could set yourself a target of eating a certain number of fruit & veg every day, for example. And you could set yourself a target of 10 minutes extra exercise a day - maybe a walk, a swim or whatever you fancy. Ease yourself into weight loss by gradual lifestyle changes.

The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that my role will go when my department starts cutting staff. It's between me and my colleague, and as she is a first aider and represents us on a couple of groups, I think it will be me.

If that's the case, I don't want to be going to interviews etc like this, so that should also be a focus.

So, next year now, I need to lose some weight and really get rid of my debt as much as possible. It's critical that I do this.

Well, although it might not look promising, it might not be you. Being a first-aider is a matter of 3 days training and representing you on a couple of groups is neither here nor there. Are you just as good at doing the job? You've got a few months, concentrate on making yourself the best at the job and make sure people see you are good at what you do (in a nice way).
  • A quick rummage tells me I own 4 of the books from the 1001 list. It's odd that only 2 of the 3 books in the Regeneration trilogy are listed. I've got the last one, I've been looking out for the other two for a while. Ones to look out for at the car boot.

Jwil, what have you started??? :D

Must get to bed, tomorrow is another day and I'd better get more done than today!!!

Thanks for the offer but I've done that on my spreadsheet using a little formula that cut out the author's surname from each book on the list. Very interesting to see the list in author sequence - there are so many authors whose books I've completely ignored up to now. :o

How clever, I never knew about project gutenberg. I have now downloaded the volume that has Oroonoko by Aphra Behn - looks a bit of a strange story but I'll give it a go.

I've had a very unproductive day after my very busy weekend - might as well not have got up to be honest, other than doing the 1001 books list!

No problem. I found that there were a lot of authors on there which I had previously ignored too. Some have been a revelation!

There is also Project Gutenberg Australia which has a few books on there which do not appear on the American site.

Hope you have a better day today!

Hi Jwil and well done on your e-bay sales. Sorry to hear about the job situation at work. I too have a bit of weight to lose :o I find it hard with the hours I work and the cost of healthy food.

:j for the e-bay sales, sadly I haven't sold anything that I listed this week. You are doing so well, would be brilliant if we can encourage each other on reducing what we owe.

Hi DDFW, thanks! Maybe your sales will go up if you relist the items. I had a load on the other week, with no interest on the first listing, but when I relisted them they went on a roll!

I know healthy eating does not need to be expensive, but when I try and eat healthily I spend a fortune, partly because I've got a huge appetite!

We can definitely encourage each other, I'm going to pinch your idea of having one target. I have one CC which is closed so I cannot spend on it. It is also my most expensive one with the highest APR, but it also has the biggest balance on it. I've always known I should snowball this one first, but it never seems to go down so it unmotivates me. However, this is the one which must go, so I'm going to focus on it. Even if I only overpay pennies, I'm going to try to make the effort.

This is what I am going to try and do, small changes which do not need much effort, then I am going to try and build on them. I have started this week by bringing carrots and a bit of cheese (for calcium) to snack on mid morning. This is always somewhere I fall down on and often revert to chocolate. The carrots give a bit of crunch and the cheese will add some substance. I don't drink milk so am very bad for getting enough calcium so the cheese will help.

I am good at my job, though I lack confidence sometimes. My colleague and I work very well together as we are polar opposites, my strengths are her weaknesses and vice versa. I am going to do my best to show results though over the next year or so.

I'm just hoping that someone decides to leave really, though we don't have a high turnover of staff. That is how we have made our staff savings so far. One person is close to retirement too, so that will help as they won't replace him.

There are a few things I found a bit weird about the list like that, it's a bit odd.

I'm sorry :p I was very obsessive about the list at the start, spent hours fiddling with it!

Hope you have a productive day today!

  • Came over here to say hi and catch up with you for a change :p

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit uncertain and down. I just wanted to send a hug as you've been such a good MSE friend to me. Worrying about your job is the worst - I was unemployed for six months last year, then did temporary/casual for a few months, then finally got a permanent job in June. I'm just hired by a (wealthy!) private individual though, and I worry every day that she's going to decide she can't afford me/doesn't need me anymore, and I'll be back to square one. Take it one day at a time and go easy on yourself.

Glad to hear you got a book/washing up liquid/advent calendar/some eBay £££ to cheer you up!

Hi HP, aww thanks for the virtual hug :)

There's not much I can do about the job so there is no point in me worrying about it. I'll try not to. I've really got to up the ante on the debt repayments - if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be so worried. I can afford the mortgage and bills on a lower salary, but I can't afford the debt repayments.

Freebies are always good for cheering me up though!
