I was with Pipex Internet, the broadband was fine, but expensive.
Customer service is OK if you don't use it...!

I've just moved to Pipex Homecall all in package, includes all 01/02 numbers anytime, line rental and up to 8Meg broadband for £29.99.
Note Pipex Homecall were originally Homecall, but bought out by Pipex.

    Phone line move was fine
Broadband move - I lost broadband for a few hours but a short call to their tech help line fixed that.

They kept me updated by post during transfer.
Even received a call after 2 weeks asking if all was OK - it was.
I'd recommend Pipex Homecall and I'm saving at least 25% over my old BT and Pipex Internet separate packages.

Also, international call charges are much cheaper on Pipex Homecall anytime
    than BT.

I was with Pipex and found them to be superb.

They have (gasp!) real English people answering the phone, who actually speak English and answer the phone in English whenever you have a problem. Their technical support is excellent, great connection speed. I miss Pipex having foolishly moved to TalkTalk.

Do not on any account even consider going with Plusnet, they are the devil's Broadband.

You cannot speak to anyone at the company, they have no telephone support, they are expensive and dishonest. THey promossed me a cheap package then charged me more money, then had an 'administrative error' which meant I had to stay with them longer than I had to so they could get mroe money.

If you hate someone and wish them ill, persuade them to sign up with Plusnet.

I am with Pipex for more than 2 years. No problems for myself except when they withdrew my Pipex Xtra points without informing me. I quickly emailed them and they responded very quickly and gave me back my points.

My advice would be to email them when the your contract is coming to an end to "discuss" about better deals available elsewhere! They increased my bandwidth from 256kbps unlimited to 2mbps 20GB cap at the same price of £14.99 but put me on another 12 months contract. This contract is coming to an end soon and let's see if they can do something better!

Oh yes, Pipex do practise "fair usage policy" and cap p2p downloads to 30Kbps. To overcome that, use uTorrent!

  • PIPEX HOMECALL..... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!

I'm another customer who was with Homecall (fine, despite being owned by Mr "Customer Service? No, we don't do that" Caudwell) when it was bought by Pipex. At first everything was fine, but then they started to overcharge me for my Hometime (evening/weekend geographical calls free) package. Despite repeated phonecalls this continued for another 2 months, at which point it was suggested that the Anytime (all geographical calls free) package with faster broadband would in fact be cheaper, and would negate the problem with the overcharge. Foolishly I agreed, at which point it all became farcical - broadband got changed, but remained on Hometime package. Spoke to well over 10 people about it over a period of another 4 months, various things were tried, including reordering line rental, which left me paying 2 line rentals a month, nothing worked. Eventually I got fed up, stopped the direct debit and told them I would pay them a correct bill as and when they produced one. That didn't work out so well. If you have an outstanding amount, they call you EVERY EVENING WITH A MACHINE which, if you answer, tells you it is an urgent call from Pipex and then PUTS YOU ON HOLD until a representative (who of course has no idea about your current situation and has to be told everything from scratch) is available. They promised to stop doing that until they'd sorted out the bill, but it didn't happen. I even ended up getting phone and broadband disconnected for a day.

Anyway, I think the problem is corrected now, but I am in any case leaving them. I told them that I wouldn't accept any disconnection charge for leaving before the end of the contract since they'd never provided the entire Anytime bundle that I'd agreed to in the first place. I'm also now in the process of writing to them to claim compensation for my time, energy, mental anguish and loss of service. Since I currently (and I think possibly, finally, accurately) owe them about £35, that seems like a nice round number to claim :-)

And yes, connection speed problems as well, of course

I have been with Pipex for about 4 years. Luckily the internet connection has always been good so I have never had the need to ring Customer Services.
Hark at you going all strict :D

My connection with Pipex on 2mb was good as well. When I came to change I was mucked about a bit. However I do think that it's who speaks to you at Customer Services.

    Have a look at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=425517

...this poster got a really good deal...and its probably worth quoting.
  • I have been with Pipex since about 2002, and had no problems with them :) That includes moving house twice, upgrading to their Pipex midi package. I find customer services ok too :)
    :j £2 coins = £2.00 :j
