burglar alarms

RedOnRed wrote:So do you actually recommend or not having a burglar alarm? Isn't it usually said that if you have identical houses next to each other then typically your average burglar will just choose the house without a burglar alarm?
To simplify things, isn't the best protection you can have just simply to have as many layers of security as possible, in order to prolong the difficulty of getting in etc?
Yes you are correct. Every step you can take to protect your home will be usefull. I am not saying that burglar alarms are useless, I would strongly advocate getting one. Also good locks. Neighbourhood watch. leaving lights on etc.
But while we all concentrate on these security issues, we forget the common sense things. I have been to homes where the vicitms are distraught and inconsoleable because sentimental things have been stolen. In one case they had ALL the security. The burglar alarm rang, neighbours came around, the locks were all in place, BUT the £5000 of jewelery was sitting in a nice pretty box on the window cill. Smash, grab, gone in 5 seconds!
I will probably incur the wrath of the MSE monitor for moving away from the subject question, but I want everyone to avoid experiencing the distress of a break in.
You are right, make it as difficult as possible, but it is not impossible for someone to enter, so don't leave irreplaceable stuff lying about.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

It would seem that the government says that Big bats are OK, under certain circumstances to protect your property. But not in revenge and not excessive punishment beatings... best read the articleNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
oh yes... bats are ok arent they now ;-) Whooooo hooooo.....
er.. i mean now thats a good reminder that appropriate force is ok.. so perhaps just showing up and telling them he has a bat will help.

What one do you buy, as i thought that they all come with a
"Solar Siren with Rechargeable Battery".
Which would need sun light to power it0 -
i got the RE3000, it has a loud siren on the keypad, so no need for box outside, its on my neighbours connecting wall and they can definately hear it..
hope thats helps

Ok, i should of looked in the clearance line section as we are on MSE.lol
If that does what you want it to and your happy thats the most inportant thing.
But all i say to people when they say" how about them £99 things from wicks,b&q. I say if £99 is all you think is it worth to make your house safe then fine.
I dont want to get into a "this is good thats not thing".
Just what i have found in working for a NACOSS co for 10 years and running my own SSAIB co for the last 5.

yes of course the clearance lines lol...
anyways, it cost me about £170 and im only a poor student you know.. (a mature one u understand) so £ is tight, until im clever in 2 years time then ill be as rich as a giant rich thing....
just thought this little alarm would suit me, and anyone in a high rise flat or somewhere you cant realistically put a box on the wall.
