burglar alarms

Dont know if this is the right place for this, so i may move it or be moved! but i am in a small terraced house on a very tight budget and am thinking about installing a burglar alarm (wire free).

can anyone reccomend one for around £100.

Are there any which dont have the box on an outside wall, i wanted descrete and unnoticable so an inside siren box would be better... do these things exist?

Hitchens (branches in various towns) at the moment have 2 Yale alarms systems. They are wireless systems, so should be easy to fit.
£99.99 (reduced from £199) and £49.99. The £99.99 item has a lot better features such as 5 or 6 telephone messages out if there is an intrusion or fire etc.

It is a good idea to have an indoor siren.

120 decibels is actually very painful indoors and is a good way of getting intruders to leave quickly.

B&Q and Wickes sell wirefree Response alarms for £99.

The siren is solar powered so will need to be near a window, and comes with two battery powered PIRs and a personal alarm "keyfob"

Why not get a quote on a professionally installed wired alarm? If you have quite a small property and just want a basic system - it may cost less then you think and you'll get insurance discounts on the NACOSS certification.

If i were you i would also get an external bell box even if its a (good) dummy.

All systems professional or otherwise are no more than a deterrant, any thief can break a window and enter the property - a visible sign of an alarm present is often enough to move them along elsewhere.

As mentioned previously here, the yale wireless is a current big seller, they are available new on ebay for half the price of Homebase and come with an external siren.

Whatever you fit its the right thing to do these days.

The whole point is to be noticeable to indicate to the bad guys that they should go somewhere easier. The alarm itself is irrelevant, who is going to pay any attention to it anyway.

yes altarf i hear wot u r saying, however, in my area, if you have a visible box on the wall, then the little darlings will DEFINATELY target you as they dont like to be beaten, my neighbours both side have said if they hear an alarm they will certainly look over the wall or call the cops... who probably wont come as there are none for 19miles here... so i kinda thought anything was better than nothing, at least it would scare the little devils off and i would have a witness should they come back...

there are NO alarms on walls round here as that would be seen as asking for trouble as it would look like you thought yourself better than anyone else by having something worth takin!

im afraid its just the way things are...

found one with pir and door sensor and also a 105 decivel alarm on the keypad and no exterior box.. all for £150 so i guess its a start...

Firstly, you will not get any "professionally installed wired alarm system" from a NACOSS firm for less than £600-700 no matter how small your house.

Secondly, in order to qualify for ongoing insurance discounts you will have to have the system serviced annually by a NACOSS accredited firm at a cost of £30-50 (depending where you are). Forget once - and your contents insurance is void!!!!

With my £200 contents policy, I would get a 2.5% discount - a whole fiver!

managed to get 1 key pad/internal siren thingy, 2 pir, 2 magnetic door catches and a remote free next day delivery and all at £166 it part alarms so can set if for downstairs at night.

ok its a basic home system, but neighbours have said if they hear it they will call cops. its a start... and will give me some peace of mind.

their service was great, and they were very helpful over the phone, just hope it arrives tomorrow and is the bees knees...

they have a 30 day money back thingy so no worries there..
