Will I be worse off?

Might I just add we do live in a deprived area. My husband has always been in a low paid job previously but a safe job (jobs are scarce) until he was made redundant. He was previously on wtc and I received ctc. While he is out of work I am receiving free school meals, prescriptions etc. Even when he does start work for £7 ph (37h pw) once he is taxed on that wage and pays mortgage bills etc I cant see us earning more than £15000 annually. Hopefully one day we can work our way up, both be full time & earn more. I am happy to give up the ctc if it gets me where I want to be, but if I can earn a little more pocket money without cheating the system I would.
You won't be giving up CTC. You'll be still taking home several thousand pound per year in CTC even with him working 37 hours and you working 18. Even when you work full time you'll still be taking home CTC.
Don't let these people scare you into thinking you'll be worse off, do a benefits check on entitledto.com.All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -
Don't take ANYONES advice on here, not mine, not Deep, not Lizzie, not ANYONE. But PLEASE go and find out from CTC themselves what the best way forward is. Get it straight from teh horses mouth. Please.
And if you could come back with THEIR answer, that would be great.0 -

If I was on even half of that, I certainly wouldnt need to ask for more.
Guys I think this has been blown all out of proportion. Maybe I have got it wrong but I also (like aphrodite) assumed over 16 hours and I will lose the CTC, and 2 hours extra work (at around £12 more) as opposed to losing £138 pw CTC I would like to keep it at 15 or 16 hours (whichever it is). Given previous financial circumstances when my OH was working this is what I have based my facts on. IYSWIM. Appologies if I am wrong.Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0 -

I actually did try this earlier today because I had my renewal pack in so wanted to inform of a change in circumstances. Unfortunately I got an assessor on the phone who grilled me about the new security system & didnt seem very nice at all, wasn't a horse....more of a nightmare!Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. If her child is three, then he/she is not a 'rising 5' and in some areas won't start FULL time until January. Even then, ALL 3 of her children may need childcare during TD days. It's not rocket science to suggest she MAY need some childcare afterall.

Thanks andyandflo. I think I will seek more advice on this. I didn't want folk to think I just wanted to claim benefits, it's not like that at all. I've got 3 young kids too so its hard to juggle between looking after them & working enough hours to pay mortgage.
Thanks for all your help guys. Just to update, I have asked in school to reduce the hours to 16 unless a full time position came up. The rest I will do as voluntary as I already do a lot of voluntary within school (I'm still doing further training). I was worried financially as although I assumed it to be £6 per hour it might (possible but not decided) be a little bit more as I am trained at level 2 but have to start at level 1. Oldernotwise...if a full time job is on offer then I will accept but this is a step up to get where I want and bearing in mind the special needs children only come in 3 days a week. I started training at nursing but it did not work out with childcare etc so this is the perfect opportunity to work around my children. By working 16 hours I can still claim some ctc and by sept, all my children will be in full time school.
Thanks again. xx0 -

But the job was to start Monday I.E WHEN HER YOUNGEST IS NOT IN FULL TIME SCHOOL.
EVEN THOSE CHILDREN WHO START RECEPTION IN SEPTEMBER USUALLY START ON PART DAYS, FROM A FEW WEEKS UP TO AN ENTIRE TERM - DEPENDING ON THEIR BIRTHDATES.
Which part of, she MAY need childcare, even for TD days - do you not understand? All over the place, from the popular culture to the propaganda system, there is constant pressure to make people feel that they are helpless, that the only role they can have is to ratify decisions and to consume.0 -

Did you do all the calculations on entitledto I suggested earlier?
You will be able to work out exactly what you can get without having to tell us. NB. You will have to enter the £151pm as other income.0 -

lol. Please try again. Whichever side of this argument is right or wrong makes no difference. If YOU get it wrong, it'll cost you thousands.0 -

And it is how long until the end of school term? If you ever had to employ some-one for childcare because planned free care did not work out, you would know it is virtually impossible to get anyone that quick for part-time and only the odd day.0 -

Go to entitled to.co.uk and input your figures on there and then you will see - Put in the 2 figures - Working under 16 hours and then working over 16 hours
Or go here - HMRC straight from the horses mouth
I'm a single mum so I KNOW that if I work under 16 hours a week I WILL lose my WTC - you will NOT lose your CTC until you jointly earn over 50K, regardless of hours
I think you're getting confused over CTC and WTCNoli nothis permittere te terere
