if anyone is thinking of getting a altenative to sky then this is what i got.
(TECHNOMATE 1500 CI FULL MOTORISED SYSTEM)
£230 delivered (compared to sky prices this is only about 5 months of there subscription.)

this is what channels i recieve there is about 5000 channels
    i have got about

    40 movie channels

lots of sport channels showing live football on the weekends

    lots of ppv channels free

lot,s of xxx and i mean loads of channels but i dont watch these :-) well not often

    music channels, discovery channels ect,ect,ect,ect.

i set the system up myself with a £10 ebay satellite finder and a £4 argos compass.
i have never put one up before took me a full day from morning to evening but i got it in the end.

and now my monthly subscription is £0.00 for all these channels :-)

Could you please be more specific about the movie channels and sport channels? Are you talking about the free to air once? I have a sattelite receiver and dish and can tell you that most of the channels (the free ones) are either foreign or a complete rubbish but may be I am not looking properly.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

After seeing similar questions on this thread can someone settle an argument with me and husband.

We live in a house with satelite dish and cables etc (installed probably about 9 years ago). We have never been a Sky subscriber - equipment left by previous owner.

I said to my husband - can't we just buy a digibox and viewing card to get freesat and he says no the dish would need to be changed to a digital one.

The DISH wouldn't need changing but it would need turning (from 19.2E to 28E) and the "analogue" LNB (could be white with a big blue cap ? - if Amstrad) replacing with a "digital" compatible one.
if its not a sky digital dish then no you will not recieve anything Sky Analogue was closed down completely on September 27th 2001.

    NOT TRUE.

My brother has an old analogue "sky" system still pointing in the direction that it always has (19.2E) and still picks up loads of channels from the original Astra satelites (1a, 1b & 1c ?)
They may not broadcast any BSkyB "controlled" channels but they are still working.
Eurosport is defintely there AND FREE because that's what he watches 95% of the time !

The guy's got a system with a motorised dish that can scan the heavens for dozens of satelites "hovering" over Canada and Russia and anywhere in between.

Yep thanks for that but what are these channels actually called? I have a motorised dish and currently receiving 9 different satellites (including the 2 you mentioned) but can't find a single decent movie channel that is free to view. Do you have one of these patched receivers that can decode encrypted channels??
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • yes it is patched m8

    movie channels are
    multivision 1 to 9
    premiere 1 to 8
and about 7 tps movie channels
    and some others.

Aiadi what satellite system have you got ?.

    riranium_man,
I'm interested in getting in to satellite TV.

Can I ask where you bought your kit from and were they purchased seperately ie motor, dish reciever, etc?
